Ok so im fairly new having chameleons and i bought 2 a male and female the male is a jackson not sure off the female.. So the female got a mouth infection meaning the corners off her mouth both got blood in them then one side puffed up and filled with puss i took her to the dr but it was to late... Now a month later the exact same thing is happening to my male and since buying them i have bouth two more so i don't know if it's conteigous or something they ate could the wrong temperature cause this i don't think it's hot enough in my cage .... I put some moss ment for frogs in the bottom wich i took out ..... Any sugestions will help, and for those off you who will suggest take him to the vet.. Yes i know but i don't have the money... I lost my job so would appreciate any comments except that thank you....

Infections that severe cannot be treated at home. I know you don't want to hear it, but a vet is the only option to save your chameleon's life. It is impossible for us to know what is wrong or if they were ill before you got them. Jackson's are prone to infections in the corner of the mouth. Please go to the vet. They may be willing to work out a payment plan.

Borrow the money or ask the vet if there is a payment plan available. From what you are describing that is the only option and if left untreated your chameleon will die, not to mention it is suffering. I have no other advice for you.

If you can't afford a visit to the vet you should try to give them away to someone who will be able to take care of there needs. I am sure they are in pain and mostly likely will not recover without Meds.

I´ve been in the exact situation that you are with jacksonii, mouth rot, out of money, you have 3 alternatives, borrow money, take a loan, talk to the vet if you can pay later somehow and leave some sort of insurance that you will actually pay and the third is puting your animal down.

you need antibiotics and the vet is the only one who can prescribe it, you need a vet to give you the brand of antibiotics, the amount and how often you should give it.
If you are going with the third one, then dont get any chameleons until you are sure you can take care of it, you have a stable job, time and space.

Mean while read. Read as much as you can about what causes diseases in chameleons, what is bad for them, how did you enclosure look like and why did that happen. Read about how gut loading affects your chameleon what is bad to gutload with, what should one gutload with just now and then, read about light cycles around the year,, read about temperatures. write down all the mistakes you have done with chameleons and how can you do so it doesn't end in the same again. do it for a couple of years until you are able to take care of a new chameleon, thats what I did

These types of infections are not contagious. There is a gland in each corner of their mouth that are prone to getting impacted and infected. We are not sure why, but I suspect its nutritional. More likely they are caused by a combination of less than perfect nutrition and stress. Its a common problem, and difficult to treat. You don't really have a choice here...either treat it with meds prescribed by a vet, putting your chams down humanely (the infection can spread, its very painful), or giving them to someone who can afford treatment.

I am quite sure that bad hygien and formations of still standing water in the cage are a big contribute for mounth rot
