Please help me!

Some vets may be good but often the idea that every guardian blows everything out of proportion. While a lot of guardians will do this, often chameleon guardians know their animals normal behaviors and should be listened to when they have ideas about what it could or could not be. We also don't bring chameleons in for every little thing either, or else we'd all be in debt with how much we worry. Thank god for the forums lol.

Many vets are reluctant to give antibiotics if there is no active bacterial infection. At the time, there may have been damage but no infection. Giving antibiotics as a prophylactic is an excellent way to create super bugs! They should have taken a swab for a culture and sensitivity, though, just in case, but at the time even that may have come back normal if there was no infection yet.

Antibiotics alone don't usually cure mouth rot...a chameleon's pus is thick like cottage cheese and needs to be cleaned out by a vet and the area rinsed properly. The pus should be sent for a culture and sensitivity test to determine the bacteria involved so the chameleon can be put on the appropriate antibiotic. The usual bacteria involved is pseudamonas aeruginosa (sp?).

Thank god our lil guy donate have mouth rot. It's weird his mouth looks really healthy other than the brown staining. No puss nothing . Which is awesome :) usually when infection gets in the jaw bone there's mouth rot to follow it. But in Rangos cause infection went straight to the bone. His mouth looks healthy , thats prolly y she sent us home with no biotics.

Whoa whoa whoa- bone infection is usually much more serious than stomachitis (mouth rot).

She sent you home with no antibiotics, at all? That doesn't make any sense if it's a bacterial infection. Unless your cham is getting the antibiotics by injection, at the vet? How is the infection being treated?

Edit: Did she do a swab and a culture and sensitivity, at least?

He finally getting treated with clindamycin hydrochloride antibiotics for bone infection. After going to the vet the third time :/
Ya we do think it was an injury that turned into an infection in the bone. Prolly a cricket. We only got him 2 months ago. An the day we got him we made an appointment with the vet cause we thought he had mouth rot. But cause his mouth looked healthy other than the brown staining she just sent us home with bedadine solution. But he was eating an drinking like crazy so I could see there mistake

Man, this sounds like a bit of a nightmare for you and your cham. I'm sorry you both are going through this.

- misslisa- thanks :) ya it's been really frustrating knowing that somtjong was wrong an a doctor not really listening until his tooth fell out :/
But he's finally getting the meds to hopefully get him all fixed up and healthy :)
