Please help lighting problem!!!!

iS IT BETTER TO USE A 100 WATT IN MY VEILED CHAMELEONS CAGE OR A 60 WATT??? The basking spot is a foot away from the light.


Chameleon-Veiled,Male,About 6 to 7 months old,In my care for about a month.
Handling- once every 2 or 3 days
Feeding-Medium crickets, about 10 every day,gutloading with complete cricket diet, Calcuim supplement every other 2 days.
Supplements-calcuim with d3/ zoo med, calcuim/ exo terra
Watering-3 times every day and misting for about 10 -15 seconds and i see him drink sometimes.
Fecal-Nothing odd about it looks normal everytime.

Cage- Screen 18x18x36
lighting-Was using 100 watt basking bulb now using 60 watt household, 5.0 uvb made by zoo med. 12 hours uvb and heat, 12 hours of darkness.
Temp-What ever a 60 watt bulb gets you in a basking temp, 73 mid cage ,68 bottom OVERNIGHT TEMP 65 to 70
Humidity-Use humidity gauge and its around 60 to 70 i maintain this by misting

cage located on top of a 2 foot tall desk right next to my snappers cage and there is alot of traffic

I would use whichever one gives you the best basking temp for veileds. I was using a 75 watt for my Jackson's for a while but with it his basking temperature was around 88-90 degrees which is too hot for Jackson's so I went down to a 40 watt bulb and now it is around 80-82 which is much better for him. I would test one and then just check and see what temperatures it is producing and either go up or down from there. I'm not sure exactly on temps for Veileds so I would check a care sheet.

Starburst, you need to get a way to measure the temperature at the spot(s) you chameleon will bask at. A veiled at that age needs to have a spot near 95 degrees. If it is not near that temperature you may need to "play" with different bulbs and light heights to get the temperature correct. No one can tell you which bulb to use, other factors come into play as in the ambient temperature in the room you keep your chameleon.

Exactly! Your room, humidity, other heat producing things in the room, spraying schedule all play in to the temp you'll get out of any bulb. The simplest test is to move the 100 watt you have to different distances from the basking perch and measure the temp right where your cham would sit.
