please help asap

Hi to all!!!
I've got a bit of a problem. My femail chameleon seem to be very much pregnant .

I saw this morning she is scratching around , so i put a container full of soil and sand! She then started to dig a hole in there, but in some time she was already at the bottom of the bowl. And couldn't dig any further. So i decided to put a deeper bowl in her cage, now she doesn't want to dig in there!! What do i do now? Do i put the old bowl back in and let her struggle?

I don't know what to do know and I'm worried i did the wrong thing!

Please can someone help me asap!!
And another question, how long does the process of her laying eggs take? When she started to dig in the soil, does it mean she is ready to lay eggs??.

Egg Laying...

There is a lot of info regarding the egg laying bin processes on the forums.

Now, what species of chameleon do you have? What are the dimensions on your first container?

I have a veiled chameleon and she did the exact same thing. I will say that it seems like they are somewhat confused as to what to do...

My husband digs a few holes for her and then leaves her to it. She does tend to dig all the way to the bottom of the container sometimes but eventually will start laying.
She actually laid her first clutch starting on the bottom of the container. All babies hatched last week perfect!

Egg Laying...

Sorry, additional post!

I also did want to say that she doesn't always lay the first day we put her in the laying bin. Last clutch took her two days!

So, don't get discouraged! Keep working with her. Set her up with a few holes and then leave her alone!

The container should be at least 12 inches deep.

Just leave her alone! Interrupting her could cause egg binding.

Give her both buckets, or one big deep one and leave her alone.

Quite serious on that.

It can take a female a few days to lay.

Thanks for your help, she is a flapneck cham.

the first one wasnt that deep and i dont have enough space to put in both.

ill try giving her some food and water this morning and dig her some holes and then leave her alone.

she looks very confused, she is up and down in the cage and doesnt seem to be calming down.

ill let you know what happned.

thanks for the info

o and should i cover her up? so she can feel private? my house is a busy house and ja so should i?

Something similar happened to me so a member on the forums suggested I put her in a large bucket a five gallon half filled with soil which I used ecoearth mixed with sand and moisten it and compress it put her in it then put a heat lamp on the top of the bucket and make sure u have a temp gauge to keep track of the temp. And when she wants to dig she will be in the right spot . Good luck

Agreed ^ Place a suitable container in the cage and leave her be. As mentioned they will utilize deep container and make sure the sand or what ever substrate you use is moist enough that you can form tunnels without them caving in.

How is the egg laying coming along? Is your female doing well? I'm not sure where you're located, but if you're in the U.S. might I ask where you got your flapnecks from? We've been really interested in getting one but haven't had much luck finding them online. Were both of yours wild caught?

Hey

she is not doing to well, she started to dig and then stopped. im really worried, but ill give her some time , maybe she's just not ready.

sorry but i live in Zimbabwe and we have millions of flapnecks in the wild, my fiance workes in the bush sometimes and got me a couple a few months ago.

but i must say, they are beautiful, both of them and very tame.

ill let you know if anything happens but as for now, she is not doing anything and she does not want water, she eats though but thats about it.

thanks

if you want i can post pics of my babies hehe

Hi to everyone

i just want to ask some additional questions

my femail chameleon has been digging on her hole for two days now.

she is at this moment not doing anything, just sitting still,
how long after they were digging the whole are they suppost to lay eggs?
i can see big bumps on the side of her tummy, shouldnt she be ready by now to lay eggs? today has been exactly 4 weeks and 6 days since they have mated.

please help, is everything still ok?:)

Can you post a picture of her? I'm not very experienced, but I think if the eggs are visible and she is not digging it might be time for oxytocin. Please wait for someone more experienced to confirm though.

I think he may be referring to a vitamin shot that can be given to help "push" the eggs out if she seems to be having an issue laying.

I am not very familiar as I do have veiled chams and have not have any problems.

Hope she is laying by now!

I hope everything will work out fine, she hasn't been digging since yesterday. But I'm giving her as much privacy as possible . I'll let you know what is happening. Thanks for all the help....

Thanks for the response. I wish I had some adivce to give you on the egg laying, but I'm totally new to all this. Good luck with everything and keep us all posted.
