So as far as i can understand there are no actuall morphs for veiled chameleons. But then i look at all these other pics of these veileds and they all look amazing. My colors on my chams look normal green. Do the colors and patterns start getting more defined when they get older?

Its just that the pics of the ones i see definately do not look like normal veilds, like this pic:

like that really doesnt look like just a normal one.

Will my veilds start lookin like that?

How old is your veiled?

When you say 'morph' I'm guessing you're maybe more familiar with snakes and how their colors are effected by genetic morphs (I think).

Chameleons are more influenced by their bloodlines. The incredible coloration on most chameleons doesn't come from a gene morph, but from the intended bloodlines of the sire and dam.

Just like bloodlines play a huge roll in the colors of panthers, they also are important in the bloodlines of a veiled. I have seen some ugly panthers (compared to others in my opinion) and some ugly veileds.

You're right, Otto isn't normal, he's the most beatiful veiled ever! ;) I got lucky with Otto, but I also picked a breeder (FLChams) where I could view the sire and decide if I wanted to own his bloodline or not.

And he spent many months in each of the phases photographed in that thread. He didn't ever really show me his coloration until he was (in my opinion) sexually mature. He never used to respond to a mirror, and then one day he just did (at about a year old), and he lit up like a christmas light and tried to mate with his reflection.

I would say that the color morphs in snakes etc are also highly dependent on their bloodlines, afterall genetics is all about bloodlines. ;)

But I know what you're saying. People aren't (in)breeding for 15 rare recessive color morphs.

But clearly that doesn't mean that all chams of one species look alike, patterns and colors are variable. :)

i think the veiled morph is the translucent and its from a gene. if you look up translucent veiled you will see a lot of stuff.

go look at flchams breeders and you can see a full grown translucent veiled

Their are several color variations in veiled chameleons.
People call them all kinds of things:
Sunburst
Turquoise
Sunburst/Turquoise cross
Orange Phase
Etc.

Yes i do have to admit im a snake man at heart.

Its just with snakes it seems so much simpler.

You get a genetically morphed snake, breed it with another, and your chances of having more morphs are good.

Really it does have to do with the blood line but not as much as chams i guess.

Im new at chams so im learning

Yeah, I was at a herp hobby bbq last month and someone was explaining snake morphology to me and I was jealous that it was so easy. I was like "really? Some of the offspring will look exactly like the sire?"

I wasn't very clear in my first post but I think you understand. There's no gauruntee that cham offspring will look just like the sire, but it'll likely have many of the same traits.

Otto's breeding this year btw..incase you want any off his offspring ;)

An actual breeder may want to chime in here, I'm talking out of my hat a little bit just based on what I've seen on these boards.
