Kinyongia its not a baby, its actually a sub adult Pygmy. It would have been independant already to have been on its own, even fleeing the firefront. Possums piggyback there young everywhere.

Funny though, it must've shot up the fireys leg into his pocket without him noticing!

Amazing that they are that small!
There are possums that visit my back yard (Canada's only marsupial)...but they are about the size of a big housecat!

Yup, most common urban possums are about that size, we see them crossing powerlines at night, theres a mother and two bubs that visit our neighbours roofspace regularly.
A little snake poop in the ceiling space and/or a shed skin or two keeps them from ours!

Oh I suspect they behave much the same as any wild animal, Defensively LOl That one may be in shock? Even so, whats a 4 ounce critter going to do thats 'nasty' bar nip/scratch? piddle or poo on you perhaps.
