Plant light makes the enclosure too hot

I got the Sansi plant light that everyone on here seems to have and it shoots the temp up to 90. I can’t leave it on but maybe an hour a day because it just gets too hot. What am I doing wrong?

I've made things like tripods from wire hangers or you can buy a bracket that mounts to your cage and hang the light from that.

I can send pics tomorrow if you need, but I used pvc to create a frame above the cage that I can hang lights from.

Oh that would be great! By the way, when I had asked how old my Jackson’s was, kaizen said to get him hydrated and weigh him. Well he weighs 30 grams. Is that a good adult weight or is that small for a year old?

The only reason I can think of that the Sansi would radiate heat downward is if it's sitting directly on a metal screen top, and the screen is acting as a heat sink/radiator.

Mine are elevated less than an inch and I can keep my hand on the screen indefinitely, so it doesn't need to be a lot of separation. I have them raised—and supported by—a couple of wooden slats that also distribute the weight to the frame so the weight doesn't deform the screen.

This is an old picture. It's so dark because the camera overcompensates for the brightness of the light.

Alright, so here's the pvc frame that I made a while back. You'll need a pvc cutter (something like this:https://www.amazon.com/IWISS-Cutter...-73ca-403a-923c-8152c45485fe&tag=toughjobs-20 ). You can find it at your local home depot as well. Super cheap--like $7. I use the T-connectors for the base footing that sits on the cage. I also used a bunch of hooks (for some ungodly reason) but if you plan it correctly, you should only need one hook. I used zip ties to fasten the pvc at the top that has the hooks so I can slide it around and adjust the light position if needed. You will also need to drill holes for the metal hooks, so hopefully, you have one. If you don't, you could probably make a loop with a zip tip and clip your sansi light onto that.

This setup can also be used for your basking light for easy adjustment. Instead of moving your basking branch up and down in the cage to achieve the perfect temperature, you can easily just raise up or lower down your light without worrying about stressing out your cham.

Honestly, I'm not sure. I've never weighed my cham, nor know what a healthy weight is for the size of your cham. @JacksJill @Kaizen, do you know? I usually just go by length and how they look. If he doesn't look skinny or fat, and you're feeding him a bunch, then chances are is that he's still growing. Do you have any pics of him from the last couple of days or maybe a picture of him on your hand?

The one that says, "not for PVC Pipes"? 😁

Just to ease the sticker shock, I recently(?) bought a PVC cutter at Home Despot for $14, but still worth it. I used it to build these monsters.

...and I thought my supports were Rube Goldberg-ish! Whatever works!

Whoops! Wrong link! :ROFLMAO: Good catch @Klyde O'Scope! Though $14 isn't bad at all. They last forever, and you can use them on projects around the house/yard (e.g. sprinklers).

In general jack jack male adults weigh about 30-35 grams. Hawaiian xanths reach 60 or so grams and the direct from Kenya imports are over 100 grams. I have one that is 110 gm.
Your boy is probably not done growing. They can skip a day now and then sometimes just before shedding.

 Wow, that's quite a range!
