i got a jacksons chameleon on saturday. i have been feeding him crickets and meal worms. he is eating the meal worms no problem, but he wont even touch the crickets. i even tried putting a cricket in the meal worm bowl, he ate around it. i did notice in his poop that he was eating roaches. however i would greatly prefer to not do roaches..
any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Feed him every second day and keep offering crickets. My chameleon refused crickets for months, I gave him a break and fed him silkworms, butter worms and occasionally super. Now he's happily eating his crickets again.

thank you for that advice!
im slightly worried he was spoiled with the roaches tho and it has something to do with that. i have a snake that will only eat white mice (refuses black) and i really hope its not something like that.

My chameleon is doing the same thing right now. He loves his wax worms and meal worms but not so thrilled about crickets. I'm not sure if I want to get roaches...

I'm there with ya! My snake eats white mice with grey mix. Any other variation and he's afraid of It he seems. Lol course I prefer an orange carrot prob wouldn't eat a blue one lol.

Yea when he's hungry he'll eat crickets I'm sure! Survival instinct has to kick in! Just don't starve him obviously

i wouldnt want a blue carrot either! lol what kind of snake do you have?

panthergirl: what are you doing to try to get him back to crickets?

is it okay for him to be having so many meal worms??

I just give him treats only a couple days a week so if he's hungry then he's just gotta eat the crickets. I'm sure he won't starve himself if there is food there.

I have a 9 year old male ball python that's picky his name is Ziggy
And a 5 year old female ball that eats anything thats radiating heat names sash.

What snakes do u have?
Sorry everyone for the off topic! Just bear with us here ;)

Mealworms should be more of a treat but as long as u work on making his staple diet crickets he'll be just fine! Long as he's getting his vitamins.
I think its cause the worms can be very fatty. Like u eating a diet of ding dongs covered in vitamans ;)
I like the human relative analogies

thank you. ill cut back on his meal worms alot. i like to think [the animal] will eat when they are hungry. kinda like us.. if ur hungry enough you will eat what is offered before starving

Exactly! Except hydration. Dang creatures wouldn't identify standing water if they fell in it
