Pet stores suck

So today i went to Petlife and i was looking at there female Jackson and i have a male Jackson and i have been doing a lot of reading on him and what i always read is about there temp and how it shouldn't be to high and that is anything over 80 deg is bad for them because they come for mountain in Kenya they like there temp to be 65 to 78 and this poor female was on the bottom of the cage and the temp was close to 90 i told them they need to lower it but they said they was just like Vein. I wish i had the 140 to buy her so she would go though that bull shit. its so sad i feel bad for her
 
That sucks Christine!!! I try to not go to pet stores cuz its just depressing and I don't have the money to bring home every animal in the store. There's is one small little pet store near me that's fantastic thankfully. I've known the owner since I was a kid and he was just an employee there but has owned it for a few years now and he takes immaculate care for the store and all animals in it!!
 
It is tough to find anyone who knows anything about how to care for the animal you want to purchase! Usually if you do find one, you will hear "I probably shouldn't tell you this but..." and they tell you to go to a reptile show or something!

That's why im going to start breeding my own crickets so i dont have to go in them anymore but they should make better laws to protect the reptiles because it not fair to them

Your completely right but sadly the lawmakers don't care :( best you can do is give your pets the best home possible and pray the rest in the world end up in a good home
 
I look at Trice and i so glad i got him and to much heat does do something to there body. Trice has a messed up horn because he was in to much heat. people really need to know what there Chameleon needs before jumping in to it or they can scar them. i look in his cage like 20 times a day just to make sure his temp is perfect
 
He's a luck lil guy and your a wonderful owner for him!! I have a bunch of different cages and terrariums and I'm constantly checking on everyone and everything even tho its all automated now, I watch them just as much as I do my son lol

i have a question for you he has a feeding cage your should i just put the crickets in with him and the mealworms and wax worms he eats right out of my hand.
 
You dont have to take him out to feed him, i dont, and yes you can put crickets in his cage but i would recommend that you take them out at night if they are big because that could do something to him.
 
Crickets are vicious they will attack there own i looked in there cage and they rip apart a couple of there own they was like that before when i looked in
 
Its probably because you aren't feeding them enough, they only cannibalize if its too-crowded or they are starving. I find dead crickets in my cages that are completely whole, and untouched due to the gutload I give them. If you find empty skins its because they molt.

Also I work at the local petco, a good manager will take the animals to the vet. We recently had a frog who had surgery.

However, you can call animal control in your area. Take a picture of the temps and the state of the reptile, send it in with your complaint. I'm no expert but aren't they literally killing the Jackson?

My crickets don't eat eachother, they has loads of crawling space and always fresh veggies and fruit..that's awesome the frog at the store had surgery, sux it was sick but great they got him the surgery.
 
So very true! Our local Petsmart just got a Jackson's in a week ago. It is sooo sad. They have his living conditions completely wrong!! We said something about it to their "reptile manager", especially about their incorrect use of supplements, and she said that she knew that it was incorrect but because of company policy she had no choice but to do it anyways! This poor baby could barely open his eyes, had dirt all over him, and no water source other than standing. He looked so sick, it broke my heart!

They are supposed to be a pet store, but they can't even take care of their own animals correctly? If they can't be responsible they should not be able to carry them. It makes me sick.:mad::mad::mad:
 
whenever things are run by policy and big corporations its always goin to suck. Its not personally the staff always you take the good w the bad but at the end of the day its about numbers and those numbers are usually profit, that is the bottom line.

Petco would rather throw out half rotted fruitflies cultures then to give someone who really could use them for even a discount. Its policy. Recently petsmart has adopted policy of pre bagging crickts. :rolleyes:


They make Millions off crickets in profit, pennies add up especially when the profit is like 99%
