Pet store letter

Def a great letter and well written. I believe pet stores need to know how to handle and maintain healthy reptiles and show the exact way the cage should be set up for home. I've been to a few pet stores without any UVB on chams and told employees to change that. In a nice respectful way. I work retail, selling TVs and you hit the nail on the head! I am all for your letter!

Some good suggestions on the blog! Thanks for the input ;). I'll keep checking and make another version soon.

Didn't notice it on your list, but don't forget Pet Supplies Plus.

I'll look into it! I'm trying to get a good list of retailers that sell chameleons. I believe Petland Discounts does, but I'm still waiting for someone to confirm this. Any others would be appreciated. :)

Thanks again for all the views and advice! Just a "bump" for some exposure to new eyes! ;)

You got it, though you may wish you hadn't! The English teacher in me jumped out--but before you worry, I will say that it was very well written to begin with! I'm just a little nit-picky.

Good luck with this!

Yes please send it to pet supplies plus! They have a veiled in terrible conditions in marlton, New Jersey. I told a worker she has to talk to the owner and get his cage cleaned out, water from a dripper not sitting dishes,
Bigger crickets, a UVB light... He's 5 months and never had UVB. His cage has feces everywhere and I'm scared. I may save him but he's very very mean and will take a lot. I don't know what to do?

This is part of the reason for trying to make a change in the pattern. By "saving" these animals, (although it is the right thing to do for the individual animal) we are all just making another sale for the store! We need to try to make the conditions better and more accurate to their needs for more success with chameleon ownership.

I was expecting some red text in that reply!!! :p Thanks for the advice! :)

Rather than you just sending in the letter, would having all of our signatures help at all? Turn it into a petition?

Someone had suggested this on the blog comments. (Thanks Sandy) I'm not sure if that would come across the right way. Also don't know how I'd do that. I definitely want to get the point across though! ;)

I def agree with you! I just feel so bad seeing chameleons or any animal being kept in such bad conditions. I feel like I should call the ASPCA and have them check into it. But I would like to adopt the guy if they were to take him out. I don't even know if they would go in there and check it out or what steps I should take. Just buying him would provoke them to buy another one and allow it to live in terrible conditions. I was also in a pets plus and apparently they had two Jackson's cages together. They knew they were having dominance issues and kept them in the cage together anyway. Well the male Jackson's killed the female and they act like it's no big deal.

Well, I kinda get the feeling that if just you send in a letter these corporate big wigs are just gonna ball it up and put it in the circular file cabinet, if you know what I mean. If it has a bunch of names on it, it might up the shock value and make them pay attention, especially if all of those names will no longer be giving them money.

There is an online petition site that has been being used in the saltwater world recently for the exact same thing, but with our fish who are being poorly treated. I'll see if I can find it.

I hope you can get that letter in every store in the country, big chain, mom and pop or any other....thank you for doing this!
