Pet Photography

Very nice. Well worded. Beautiful photos. I hope the business really takes off. There is certainly a market for it. You're living in a good area, with the right clientele. How are you promoting the new business?

When I was single I had photos taken of myself with my dog, Tomodachi (I purchased her in a dog pound in Okinawa and she spoke Japanese :)). She helped me through some very hard times. We know people who had photos taken of their pets, and, long after the pets were gone, the family still kept the photos displayed.

Are those 2 pictures of Otto? I kind of pictured him in a ski mask with a semi-automatic weapon in his hand, and extra clips strapped to his belly. :D Just kidding. He really is a beautiful veiled.

Really outstanding pictures. Your reptile pictures really capture the essense of them. I like the snakes especially. Too bad there isn't a pet photographer in my area!

I started a new bussiness in 2008. Have a look and tell me what you think. I'm aiming at people with tiny dogs and big wallets, but marketing myself as diverse as possible. Obviously I'd rather be shooting herps.

We keep the guns locked up, but I still often wake up with Otto standing over me staring at me with both eyes, and holding a sharp stick. It's creepy.

Yeah that's Otto at the bottom of the gallery. He's gorgeous when he's pissed.

I'm handing out post cards locally and putting them up in dog groomers and vets and animal hospitals. I don't want too much bussiness because i already have two jobs X( My hobbies keep turning into work. This is my other job...

People in Seattle love their dogs. There's more dogs then children in this city. I saw a hole in the market, so we'll see. No calls yet actually.

You do some amazing work! Very very cool. You should go to reptile shows, set up a booth and do pro pictures for people. and or draw them

Howdy Royden,

Since you are the photographer and only supplying the digital files to the customer, if your customers are ever looking for a high-end photographic (digital or analog) printer, that would be my brother :). Even though images can be uploaded to his site, some of his customers fly-in from places all over the country to get work done by John, here in Los Angeles. From 8x10 to 50x120 and larger are possible. One of his specialties is mounting those prints on sheet aluminum for an impressive look. His customers range from the walk-in customer to museums and artists. www.weldoncolorlab.com

Awesome Dave! Thanks. I'll try to forward bussiness his direction.

I've been in need of high quality prints myself in the past. Thanks for the tip!

WOW, great site and gorgeous photography work! I wish I had someone like you in the area for such shots on my horse. Absolutely fantastic work!

Hey,

Nice work on both sites you posted!

Off topic but whats the story on this picture? I liked it.

Thanks all! Good to know that I might be on to something. I'm afraid of someone like you callimg me cowchick! I would need to buy a new lens for a horse. My current lens is really for small animals. Some of the larger labs, I had to be several meters back to get the head and shoulders. It's literally best for herps and insects.

Couldn't see the photo Kevin!

Ahhhh, don't you love the metric system instead of 5 apples == 2 bananas?

Do you have a macro lens since you need to be back a few? What's your equipment like if I may ask?

Kevin is asking about this picture: http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/5454/1390/1600/concept_1.jpg
Now I'm interested to know as well.

I have a pretty simple setup. Just a canon rebel xti with a 420 ex speedlite flash, and a 60mm prime macro lens. I have other lenses, but that 60mm macro is the most incredible lens, I try to use it for absolutely everything.

I bounce the flash upwards off the ceiling if it's white, or off a small 22" reflector that I have my wife hold above the flash.

That image of the kid with the jet pack, is a concept piece for the graphic novel series I'm working on right now, called Jet Jones. Published by Zondervan, it'll be out in 2010. It's a 4 book series. I do a book a year but they're releasing them all together when they're done.

I have 4 beginner reader children's books coming out this February called Barnabas Bear. There's my shameless plug...

Besides this entire thread I suppose.

good luck! you may get the 220 out of most people but it seems unreasonable to charge them for the digital files too, my question would then be why am I paying you the 220 and you'd say to take the pics and I'd say well what good is that too me if I don't get to to keep the pics, and you'd say i'm charging you an extra 8 dollars and I'd laugh at you, but the pictures look great :)
