pesky locusts!

Hey there!
Iv just purchased an exo terra faunarium to try keep my locusts happy but I'm just not sure the best way to transfer my bugs from the petshop tubs... ... Pretty.amature question but I don't fancy a bedroom full of bugs!! Lol...
Any help or suggestions would be great :)

I put the tubs in the fridge for a few minutes first - not too long as it kills them. I found that one out the hard way, lol! This slows them down long enough to tip them into the faunarium without too may if any escapees. Either that, or grab them and put them in one by one.

I speak from experience! When I got my first cham, the only way I could deal with locusts and crickets was to put them in the fridge for a while to slow them down. Four years later, I really don't mind them any more, but Dubia roaches are a different story!

Haha.. I knew there must have been a way to do it but for the life off me couldn't figure it out! I like the locusts when there not escaping from me haha.. But crickets are evil! Rocco doesn't seem to like them either though... Which Im kinda glad about! :D

At least locusts are fun to try and catch when they escape! It's quite funny chasing one across the room! Crickets just hid under the nearest thing and they stink! Locusts are not without fault though. I have been bitten by one before now - it left a couple of red marks on my finger!

Oh dear! I didn't even kno they were biters! Eek! Lol but ya can't have a cham without bugs so Its a small price to pay, and somethin I guess I'll get rather used too :)

And locusts cost a bomb compared to crickets. 15 locusts are the same price as 50 crickets!! A box of locusts last me 2-3 days...

Lol, you'll get used to it quickly enough. It's usually only the adult locusts and crickets that try to bite in my experience, it's pretty rare but that just makes it the more surprising for you................
I never bother putting them in the fridge, you can open your pet shop tub inside the faunarium and just tip them in right? They occasionally bounce out but they rarely get far. Fruit flies are different, I don't have the knack and they go everywhere..........
Looks like you have a little Veiled there - mine prefers locusts too, to the point that he refused to eat crickets for a while hoping to be fed exclusively his favourite foods . They can be fussy little guys, and it's so hard not to spoil them :)

Tell me bout it! Lol wish he gave them the time of day but he just looks at them like :-/ "you wouldn't eat them!" ... Stubborn little man!

Wow your just over the bridge :) !
He is pretty stubborn lol aren't they all!!
and I guess I could just tip them in but after the second, third tub... They'll be escaping everywhere!! Pandemonium! Haha

Fruit flies are easy in the fridge too! Someone gave me that tip when I was trying to dust mine and start a new culture. Put the tub in the fridge just long enough to sow the flies down, then tip them into a funnel over a jar or a bag, etc. Gotta be quick though as they bounce back from the cold really fast!!

Yep, hello neighbour, welcome to the forum :) the second tub is where it gets more interesting, I agree :D Here's the basic caresheet I always recommend to new people with Veileds - https://www.chameleonforums.com/blogs/chameleonsinmyhouse/395-veiled-chameleon-care-sheet.html

I tried, even with the fridge I made a bit of a mess of it. Just the journey upstairs was enough to get them flying again. I was trying to feed mantids and it was a bit more fiddly than just transferring tubs. Maybe last time I just got a strong batch though because I managed to dust them fine when my Chams were babies. Still, leave a half finished beer out and all the fruit flies will soon be inside.......

My cocker just loves chasing locusts. He looks on them as his special treat every week. I buy them in a white canves sort of bag. 50 in bag.i think it works out cheaper that way.i go for hoppers as the wingers definatly bite.

Oh :D. just scroll down a little when you are writing a post and there is a button that says 'manage attachments' - click that and then 'choose file' and you should be able to put anything from your computer up.

Or you could open a Photobucket account and upload them from there. Once uploaded, just copy and paste the photo's image code into your thread/post.
