I have seen several pictures of people using peg board as backing on their cages. What I'd like to know is what the likely hood of it breaking down or rotting after constant misting. Will latex paint seal it properly?
It should, but youll have to put on several thurough coats. Also remember, that latex paint does not adhear to all surfaces and the smooth sides of some types of pegboards may not be suitible.
I was at lowes the other day and saw hard platic type of peg boards. Not sure if anyone have used it before or not but would love to here ur opinions of it if you have.
Actually... If you would have got'n the plastic it would have cut really easily, perhaps even better than wood depending on the type of plastic... Use a wood saw, or get a good PVC blade and it will cut it like Butta...
I was planning on using peg board for one of the sides. Mainly because it would have had a dual purpose of circulation and allowing me to attach vines and plants easier to it. But after I started building my cage, I built extras in it so I wouldn't have to hang things. Plus I like semetry and it would have looked funny on one side.
When i used wood for mine,i attached vines(the fake ones) by drilling a 1/8 hole into the wood and stripping off the vine a inch or so and stiling the wire through the hole and bending it off in the backside of the wood...
