In tegu land, you have "the food tub". You see they are natural scavengers, and the not so bright ones will associate "you" or "the hand" with food, and be very bitey. So the solution is to have a "food tub" which to the horror of certain wives may be the bath tub. You put the food in said tub, they put said tegu in said tub. Now the tegu associates getting picked up with food. And no one knows how the food magically appears in the tub.
