Pascal is not eating!

Pascal has not been eating much this past week. he maybe eats one or two crickets per day and I am worried. I just got him the right uvb and he gets six 10 sec mistings a day and has a fogger at night he does not show any signs of illness or fatigued. dose anyone have any ideas? also if you need more info feel free to ask!

My brain isn’t awake enough yet to recall or look back…have we done a full husbandry review for you yet? I did see enough that you said he doesn’t eat much before shedding - could this be it? Maybe post some pics of Pascal and his entire enclosure. I have to start work in a very short while and never know if I’ll be busy or able to hang out on the forum.

I dont think I have completed one of those yet.

Oh little Pascal. ❤️ How's the new cage build plan going? It would be helpful if you could answer the questions below; so that the more experienced members here can give you some suggestions and support.

Chameleon Info:

  • Your Chameleon - The species, sex, and age of your chameleon. How long has it been in your care?
  • Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon?
  • Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What is the schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders?
  • Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule?
  • Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking?
  • Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites?
  • History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you.

Cage Info:

  • Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions?
  • Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule?
  • Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps?
  • Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity?
  • Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind?
  • Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor?
  • Location - Where are you geographically located?

Current Problem - The current problem you are concerned about.

  • Your Chameleon - Pascal is a male veiled chameleon i have had him for 7 months now
  • Handling - Almost every day
  • Feeding - Pascal is a very picky eater but he will eat mealworms and mostly crickets. When he was feeling good he ate about 5 crickets and two mealworms a day but usually less mealworms bc they are more of a treat. around the time I wake up I will put his food in his dish and he eats them throughout the day. I gut load with broccoli lettus, spinach, carrots, and sometimes oranges.
  • Supplements - I use ZOOMED calusim without d3 every feeding and then the same brand of calsuim with d3 and vitamins once a month.
  • Watering - I have a mister on a set timer and I will mist his cage too. Misting schedule is a little crazy so I will put a pc of it at the bottom of the page. he also has a fogger for night time. I have not seen him drink much lately but before I could spot him drinking.
  • Fecal Description - he has had some large poos and his uraite is light orange to white. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites, Pascal has never seen a vet because he has never had any bigger issues.
  • History - I got him when he was pretty young from a friend of mine he is now about 10months. when he would shed he would not eat much only 1or2 bugs but after he sheds he would eat as much as I could give him.
Cage Info:

  • Cage Type - His cage is all screens except for one plexy glass door on the bottom of his cage. it is 4ft tall 16 deep and 16inchs wide
  • Lighting - I got the 6.0 uvb bar light about 4 weeks ago I think it was a REPTISUN. What is your daily lighting schedule, 12hours on 12off
  • Temperature - 73-80, Lowest overnight temp,68. How do you measure these temps, digital thermometer.
  • Humidity - What are your humidity levels, I will put a picture of my range in. How are you creating and maintaining these levels, through a fogger and mister. What do you use to measure humidity, digital hydrometer.
  • Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind?, one golden pothos and a cane plant but he almost never goes on the cane plant
  • Placement - Where is your cage located? in my room. Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas?, no. At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor? 4 ft off the floor (it will be on a 40inch stand when I get his new cage built)
  • Location - Where are you geographically located? Florida so I don't have to worried about the humidity lol
Current Problem - Pascal losing his appetite after his last shed was difficult for him.

I was running out today but wanted to get to this, so yes let me see!

Your Chameleon - Pascal is a male veiled chameleon i have had him for 7 months now
Handling - Almost every day
Feeding - Pascal is a very picky eater but he will eat mealworms and mostly crickets.

I'll attach the feeder insect and recommended gutloading foods. I think broccoli, lettuce, and spinach are all on the lower tier. For greens, things like collard greens, mustard greens, or dandelion greens have greater nutritional value. Carrots are top notch. I'll also link this gutload icecube video! It's really fun to just blend together and you can keep them in a freezer for six months. I like to remove Spooble's feeder cup before bed, grab the roaches he'll be having the next day, and shave off a bit of a cube to add to the cup for them to eat overnight. The rest of the roach colony eats dry roach chow and repashy bug burger (which you can also store for six months in the freezer once you make it!)

Supplements - I use ZOOMED calusim without d3 every feeding and then the same brand of calsuim with d3 and vitamins once a month.

For the multivitamin, he should have this two feedings during the month, instead of once. You should also replace it as it doesn't seem to have a form of vitamin A that chameleons can utilize. It's super important for their eye development! Reptivite is readily available and will do the job. Repashy calcium plus LoD is the best option for science reasons I'm not smart enough to repeat xD It lacks phosphorus which is calcium binding, which makes it a bit of a moot point as far as supplementing the calcium goes. Is that it lol?

Watering - I have a mister on a set timer and I will mist his cage too. Misting schedule is a little crazy so I will put a pc of it at the bottom of the page. he also has a fogger for night time. I have not seen him drink much lately but before I could spot him drinking.

What times is his mister set to go off? It's good practice to do two mistings, once in the morning, and once in the evening. Currently I have my mistings done at 8:30 and 7:30 in Spooble's waking hours, not that you have to copy that. My thinking is just that it makes sense for the cham to wake up and hydrate (and also that I'm trying to help Spooble flush his more vulnerable saggy eye)
As for the fogger, I'm aware it's best to employ these if your temps are below 68f. I don't know the particulars, but I'll assume it's to stave off bacteria growth.
I've never seen my guy drink, but i hear it's very cute to watch. Lucky you having seen it at all!

Fecal Description - he has had some large poos and his uraite is light orange to white. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites, Pascal has never seen a vet because he has never had any bigger issues.

It's not a bad idea to get a fecal test just as parasites can interrupt a chameleon's appetite. It's best to rule it out and get treatment if it is present. Fecale description sounds about right. Our chameleons can leave some astounding things I will say that much. So big lol But they're so small.

History - I got him when he was pretty young from a friend of mine he is now about 10months. when he would shed he would not eat much only 1or2 bugs but after he sheds he would eat as much as I could give him.

Hoping it's shedding behavior! It's good to be in tune with their habits.

Cage Info:

I know you're in the process of putting something together, and look forward to seeing the results!

Lighting - I got the 6.0 uvb bar light about 4 weeks ago I think it was a REPTISUN. What is your daily lighting schedule, 12hours on 12off

Sounds good!

Temperature - 73-80, Lowest overnight temp,68. How do you measure these temps, digital thermometer.

This also sounds about right. Anyone here know at what age our boys get their basking temps at 85?

Humidity - What are your humidity levels, I will put a picture of my range in. How are you creating and maintaining these levels, through a fogger and mister. What do you use to measure humidity, digital hydrometer.

Those levels also look good. I assume the 80% spikes are at night. Good going.

Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind?, one golden pothos and a cane plant but he almost never goes on the cane plant
Placement - Where is your cage located? in my room. Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas?, no. At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor? 4 ft off the floor (it will be on a 40inch stand when I get his new cage built)

All sounds good.

Here's the aforementioned gutloading and feeder images. There are a lot of good places to order variety feeders online. dubiaroaches.com offers discoid roaches, which are florida legal, and a good idea for your staple lineup. I also believe coastalsilkworms.com is based in florida or close so shipping might not be a nightmare for you lol
I have dubia roaches, silkworms, BSFL (if I can ever manage to keep them alive lol) as his staples, with a hornworm before they get too big huge enormous. Also a single waxworm daily as I try to build trust with my guy. Usually a cham's pickyness is in how much the food moves, probably why he likes crickets so much.

I hope he gets better soon!
