parasites mites? what is this! need Meller help:

so in a mater of hours my meller has gotten this grey spot covering her face, i have been watching her all day and she hasnt moved from her free roaming place so i know she wasnt burned, i dont know if shes shedding or if something is seriously wrong with her. she has a vitamin dificiency and a previous vet told me it was that but im not to sure im taking her to the vet tomorrow no doubt but i need some advice and opinions because taking a chameleon to the vet is very stressfull and i want to know as much as i can before...sorry the pic quality is bad

Beautiful Mellers

Looks like she's just shedding. I only say this because i could see a few other small grey spots on her Casque. If you mist the grey area does it look a bit transparent? Or bubble? if so it's forsure dead skin getting ready to shed.

Hope someone else chimes in and you figure out whats wrong!

I've noticed this during my Chameleons Casque growing I'm sure its just their features growing its even happening to my Panthers nose "fin."

well shes had it on her casque for a very long time shes 5 years old im pretty sure shes done growing and has some on her underbelly as well i think shes having a hard time shedding her skin and its just collecting and collecting but her face just lit up grey in a matter of hours and im not sure if its anything bad thats spredding

Wow, first of all that is incredible that you have kept a Mellers for 5 years. Big congrats on that! What does the inside of her mouth look like? From the pictures it almost looked like she had some mouth rot going on but that being said it just may have been the angle the pictures were taken. I hope the best for you both as Mellers are one of my favorite chameleons. Ruth

thanks i personally have only had her a year the previous owner had her for 2 and he bought her at a rep show and i think she was wild caught but i think she is having shedding issues i sprayed her with this spray thats supposed to help her skin and help her if she has shedding issues and it made all the spots of gray go transparent so i think she is having shedding issues which means i need to spray her more with that spray she hates it ha and bring her humidity up more then it is, i started free roaming her so during the day she free roams and at night shes in her cage so she isnt getting as much humidity as she should im hoping that helps! thanks guys for your help ill keep you posted. she loves to scare me all the time

could you add a cool mist humidifier to the room. Maybe that would help and even aim it in her direction.

i have a humidifier already.. she got worse her whole face is white now but when i touched it some of the skin fell off and it was green underneath so i think shes just shedding and because of her vitamin deficiency its making it difficult im misting her with this special formula they sell at pet stores that are supposed to help aid in chameleons who have shedding problems and ill see if that helps her if not shes going strait to the vet im giving her tomorrow to shed it if not im taking her to the vet, shes always had problems shedding but ive never seen this before.

Older chams shed a lot slower than young faster growing chams do. Patchy shedding, especially on body areas that don't flex (such as casques, rostral ridges and horns, the areas on your cham's face, dorsal spines) is common. If the skin under the "grey" patches is normal looking then yes, it is just a shed. It could also be that she didn't completely shed the previous time and it is taking longer to get rid of the extra layer. IMHO, your pics look pretty normal to me. I doubt she is having difficulty shedding because of a vitamin deficiency (never heard that one before). There should be other problems showing up if that was true. Does she have any other problems that could be signs of vitamin deficiency? Can you give us the details about your gutloading and supplements so we can double check this? The so-called Shed Ease stuff sold at pet shops is pretty much a waste of money IMHO. What's the humidity level in her habitat? If it is too dry she will have trouble shedding. I'd try upping that first instead of the vet visit.

i feed her superworms beetles crickets anything a put calcium on it i feed her b12 once a week and started the d3 the previous owners had her on b12 and it helps with her tounge a lot, she sleeps during the day she tires easily and her tounge doesnt shoot out and is not as sticky and it should be, i was told from the previous owners she had a vitamen b dificiency which caused that but i continued to do what they did for her for 2 years and shes been fine, she still takes naps but some days she active and runs around everywhere... like yesterday she tried to take a swim in the fish tank to eat the fish -__- her humidity could be raised shes in a bird cage not a mesh cage and it doesnt keep humidity well but shes never had high humitidy shes adapted to that because the previous owners didnt even know she needed humidity. but shes doing better its coming off so were good that spray has helped her because it is filled with vitmins and aloe vera so its been helping keeping her skin humid which is why i bought it

A cham's tongue can lose its stickiness if the cham is dehydrated. There is a gland on the tip that produces mucous to help prey stick to the tip when they shoot. If the cham is dehydrated the gland doesn't produce as well.

Chams don't really "adapt" to the wrong conditions all that well. They may be borderline for her but if they get worse she could really go downhill faster, especially as she ages. If she's chronically dehydrated (and you are in Utah which is very dry!) she is going to have some chronic health issues as you've described. I'd suggest that some of the problems you are seeing are due to this, not vitamin deficiencies. Try giving her gentle luke warm showers to help her shed completely and give her the chance to drink all she wants.

i do that to her i shower her everyday and she drinks everyday i check her poo and shes pefectly hydrated and fine, why do you think they have calcium? its for them to be healthy she didnt get that proper care before and now shes paying the price. she has been to the vet and been diagnosed with a vitamen b difficiency i have had her a year and shes still fine and active and doing ALOT better then when i first got her so id say im doing a damn good job at it
