Panthers vs. veileds

As a first time chameleon owner, is either the panther or the veiled a better choice?

I know the veileds tend to live a little longer, as well as being a little smaller.
I also know the panthers aren't hooded/veiled which some say makes them easier to care for.

Any suggestions?

Well, both are an excellent beginner species. Their care is very similar, and they are both very hardy chameleons. I'm going to attach a little chart that compares their care:

Actually, Veileds are a little bigger than panthers although you gets runts and giants of each. But they will both require the same minimum cage size when full grown, so the difference isn't huge. And the casque (the "veil") won't affect care at all, really, except veileds tend to burn the tops of their casques more against hot lights but that can be easily avoided with some caution.

I've had both and both species are great. Go for the one you like the most, taking into account budget (panthers will be more expensive) and your personal preference.

nice chart! btw...i started w/ panthers and i don't have any veileds...for now.
