Panther turned all red in natural sun?

Hello all!

Normally my cham is blue and red. I’ve never seen him all red before. I took him outside to get some good sunlight (south florida) while I fixed up his cage. He’s been out here 15-20 minutes and turned all red. It’s super cool just want to make sure he is ok!

Good looking chameleon you have there!
This color shift could be a sign that he is too hot outside. Chameleons turn dark colors to absorb heat, and turn light colors to reflect heat. Having your chameleon outside is fine as long as your chameleon's enclosure has some dense vegetation so he can hide in and cool off.

Yes it was quite hot out. He was only outside for about twenty minutes before he came back to his indoor enclosure and his blue is back :)

Real sun does some fantastic things for them. However getting too hot can be dangerous as well. They will sit there and bake even though they are getting too warm. I agree with the shade cloth or really dense foliage in the cage. Then they are partially shielded from the direct rays. Also time of day makes a difference. Mid day heat can be quite extreme especially when you are dealing with high humidity. Toss a dripper on his cage so he can drink if he needs to.

Yup yup. I agree that he is showing signs of heat stress. If at any point while outside he shows those colors and starts gaping than you know he is dangerously hot and needs to be brought in immediately.

Here’s a good video to watch:

If window open and there a screen. But window closed no. There some heat depending on your windows
