Panther or veiled

should I get a panther Cham or vieled bc online it said vieled are nicer but all my friends have both and the panther is much nicer and way more vibrant I and heading on the panther side but if I have any reason not to that should hell and I’m planning to raise the panther since it is in the egg but not the vieled bc I couldn’t find any vieled eggs

Well, it's all based on personality with chams but, more people have said panther chameleons are calmer and nicer BUT there are still some of those panthers that can be mean, same goes with veiled. It's just what you really want, if you want a really nice looking vibrant colorful panther go for it! It all depends!
Edit: I chose panther over veiled for the colors!

The experts on here( not me...the expert part) all seem to somewhat agree that a MALE vieled chameleon is the best to start with...I’m new and got a vieled male from FLchams after my first attempt with a sickly pet store Little guy ended in him being put down by the vet... Again I’m no expert but read , Basic husbandry, supplementation, habitat creation, hydration needs, best feeding practices, all available under the search...then you will have a great start...I’m new and these forums are so great, I’m actually more interested in all forms of science now

Thx I was interested in saving a female vieled but it was very aggressive towards me so I’m a little scared on getting a vieled the lady that was at the rescue society said that’s how all vieleds are so that kinda psyched me outv

Nah...they’re all different, my male walks onto my hand and I put him on a Cham safe house tree to free range...with good advice from here...(and I’d still make sure to get a male first time around) get what you want

If you end up with a female (which is cool) they will lay eggs whether they are mated or not....and I’d get all the advice on that upfront...a lot of times you can post a picture once their 3 months old or so and the established ppl on here can sex it for you...let you know which it is ...

Veiled are known to have wild mood swings and their temperament varies animal to animal. My veiled for example, is extremely territorial and defensive. He will literally try to chase me out of his cage and recently gave me a nasty bite which I needed to have my finger glued to close the cut... Panthers, in my experience, are much more mild temperament wise.

All of the above is useless information if you do not take the time to build trust with your chameleon. Never grab at the cham, never approach the cham from above. Slowly work with the chameleon to get it used to you being around.

My girlfriend and I worked with my Veiled for months to build trust. He now absolutely hates me since I broke our trust by having to be the bad guy and give him oral meds daily when he had an infection. He still trusts my girlfriend and will practically come running to her and sit on her head when she is cleaning his cage...

I love the colors that part there come in but I love the head gear on the Yemen. Ultimately I decided to go with Yemen and will keep you posted on how our bonding goes once I get him.

I went through the same thing you are now and did a lot of reading and research and found I just like the Yemen.

To be honest I love them all and may get another species once I get confident with my first one.

I went through the same thing when I decided to get my chameleon. I dediced to go for a male panther for the following reasons:

I chose a male because I didn't want to deal with the egg laying issues. I'm a beginner and I read about the risk of females becoming egg bound and dying so I chose to steer away from it.

I chose a panther because of the colors (but then I saw pics of male veileds here on the forum and MAN was I impressed!!) and the fact that panthers are supposed to be a lot friendlier... I still ended up with a skittish, fearful chameleon that pretty much hates me lol.

Conclusion, the personality thing is not a given and you might end up with a chameleon with an attitude.. but you learn to love them anyways! and when it comes to the colors, I think both species are unique and beautiful in their own way. They say veileds are easier so as a beginner you may want to take that into consideration, but ultimately get whatever suits you best

@andrearamirezo91 I chose a male for the same reason. It sounds like settled ng up an egg box isn't too difficult but I want to make sure I understand how to take care of a Cham first before I deal with that stuff. Down the road I am already thinking I will get a second Cham once I get the first one down and then a new decision will start as do I get a male panther or Jackson or do I get a female Yemen and try breeding.

Right now I'm leaning towards a male of another species but we shall see when we get there. Haha.

I agree the colors on a male Yemen can be amazing as well so don't let the color thing push you one way or another .

I wouldn’t consider breeding for several years...that’s an entirely different ballgame...and for I would say an expert level keeper. Also those care needs and set up are costly and extensive from what I’ve seen (and what happens if your successful and end up with 8-15 or so baby chams)...just food for thought
