panther keeps falling !!!!

hey i kent nailed that one on the head.

I have recently introduced these large cages and larger, and you learn quickly that your cham can not navigate the high screens effectively because nails get stuck etc, and when he starts getting heavy it will only be more of a problem, watching your chameleon fall is nothing but scary, especially when he plants, and eye could get poked out by a branch on the way down !!!

a solution i came up with is to line the walls in vines of some sort so on every vertical surface a majority of the wall is covered with vertical vines. vines get pricey so you can always hotglue some rubber irrigation 1/4 inch tubing, its cheap and effective, cleans well feeders can grip it doesn't come apart like bio vine, just a lil more difficult to work with, but if you are a crafty person and look it like if i take my gluegun out once it will be done forever, than you're good to go.

alot of people use that silkworm style plastic mesh, and they work well, but they are a lil more difficult to work with imo and then feeders get stuck, but i may end up using that stuff on at least the back wall just because its real good grippage, just not a big fan of the every wall cuz too many crevices for feeders.

the soft mesh screen for cages is amazing too, i have a few soft mesh cages where the screen is rubbery small squares, and i don't feel guilty at all about having panthers in there with no vines

the lightind has changed i do have two lights one low and one high ( now ) temp at the top is around 85 and in the direct ight it is 92 crnter of cage is in mid 80's and bottom is a little cooler than the top, by about 10 degrees

I think you will benefit from just having 1 heat source at the top than trying to evenly heat the whole cage with a top lamp and a middle heat lamp.
how high exactly is the top of the cage to your eye level?
Would it be suffice to say that when you stand, you will be at the same eye level or somewhat higher than the top of the cage?

If that is the case, try to elevate the cage so that the upper 1/3rd of the cage is higher than your eye level.
Sometimes elevating the cage will help your chameleon to relax more. Thus, preventing him to climb all the way to the top upside down.

well its night here and he is sleeping so i guess i will re-do his cage again tomarrow with more/taller branches. again what is another good tree type plant to put in his cage ? i have a pothos in there already and some flukers fake foliage.

pothos isn't really a good climbing tree. The vines are flimsy.
Try Ficus Benjamina, Schefflera Arboricola, and my favorite Hibiscus Rosa Sinensis.

good luck! keep us posted and a pic of his new cage.
