Furcifer pardalis (panthers) are form Madagascar

The different locales/morphs are named for different areas on the island (and surrounding small islands): "Nosy" is Malagasy for "island", so "Nosy Be", "Nosy Faly", "Nosy Mitsio", etc., come from those islands. It's fun to look at a detailed map of Madagascar and see where the different chameleons come from; Ambilobe, Ambanja and Ankaramy, for example, are all in the northwest.
