Panacur second dosage time from first?

I went through the archives and found differing opinions. Dave Weldon told me and I lost my notes on it. I've read everything from 10 days to three weeks.

I did a 3-day treatment to get rid of ringworm. This would be the 2nd.

Thanks for clearing it up.

Our vet's standard is 3 weeks, this is what we use, and is tried and true. I think this length varies depending on the vet........and the parasite. Is it ringworms? The goal is to knock out the eggs before they hatch in to fresh nasties:eek:

Hi Liz. I saw in one of your other posts you said "in 2 weeks, 6/16 was the second dose....the third dose was scheduled for 4wks after the second."

Your post is the only one I found about time between dosages.

Oops, pinworms. The first poop after dosage showed three that were **eek** three that were an inch long. The 2nd and 3rd poop I didn't see any. I regularly do fecals on him and he couldn't have had it more than a three weeks.

Lots of differing durations between dosages. You basically administer 3 rounds of Panacur, such that you catch the next cycle of hatched parasite eggs. The most pervasive opinion I've found says once every 14 days .. repeated 3 times. So, that should kill the worms and 14 days later you want to kill the hatching eggs.. then 14 days later hit any remainders one more time.

Is it possible that some parasitic worms have a different cycle... some 7 days .. some 14 days ... ?????? could explain the different repeat durations.

Are you sure you mean ringworms? Not Roundworms or Tapeworms?? Only b/c ringworms are not mentioned in my Understanding Reptile Parasites book, and I think it's the round skin mark thing you can get.... Do they look like this, this is from when Vega had tapeworms?

The Understanding Reptiles Parasites book recommends a treatment of Panacur, at a dose of 25-50mg/kg, once a week until negative stools are obtained. So I'd prob follow something between this and Harry-o's suggestion;)

I think alot of it is going to depend on how many worms he has to begin with. If he only has a few then maybe doing it for 3 days then repeating in 2 weeks is fine. I had one recently that was loaded with them and did a 7 day treatment and will repeat in 14 days and then again in 14 days. I know that is alot more than usaully recommended but even after 4 days he was still having roundworms coming out. Iccckkkk!!! Good luck.
