Outside Setup/Night Heating

Okay for those of you who live in So. Cal. and keep your chams outdoors all year round...I know the temps can get pretty cool between 40's-60's-ishh how do you keep your chams comfortable?? Since I only have a few..I normally bring them indoors if it's below 60's they each have there own ficus they hang out on through the night then I bring them back out in the morning...But this will change when we move into our next place...I'm thinking of setting up some Red Nightlight Bulbs to keep them comfortable through the night...just looking for some ideas on what I can do...Let me know what you think?!

not sure about the veilds, but from what I've read, panthers are good down into the 50s. As long as they can heat back up in the day, you should be fine. I've never had a problem.

Im 8 miles inland in San diego and I really don't know what I want to do just yet. I had my chams outside all year minus a few weeks last winter when I lived in Ocean Beach, now I'm a bit more inland so I am still debating whether or not I should bring them in from outside when it chills.

San Diego huh..I'm sure the weather is a little warmer than where I'm at...I'm in Oxnard-Silverstrand...if you know where thats at.."Ventura County" Temps usually range from 60-80's but when the sun sits in one spot on my cages it gets up to 90 on top..70s on the bottom...they usually move with the sun.. I keep panthers and veiled...so you have them outside now? and your debating weather or not you should bring them in when it chills out?? I know the temps get pretty low inland 30's-40's in simi, moorpark, T.O..not sure about san diego though?? what were your temps by the beach like??

Living by the beach was awesome, the low was never more than 10-15 degrees lower than the daily high in winter! Coldest night was around 45. My weather now(8 miles inland) definitely doesn't get as chilly as it does in VC. I grew up in TO so i know exactly what Oxnard weather is, crazy! I once considered getting one of these because I hate the look of infrared bulbs:

but I can't recall the prices and I don't think heating panels would work as well as a night bulb.

I'd say my panthers were always happy even on those 50F nights, but they really needed that morning sunshine. I took them inside for a while more-so because the marine layer was not burning off as quickly than because of the low temps. I liked to believe they enjoyed the morning dew too! I'd say panthers outside with a heating element could be done in Oxnard ALMOST all-year long but not sure about those frosty <40 nights.

Those panels won't work well for outside. The air outside will take the heat and run with it unless you somehow manage to trap the air inside of the cage... by putting up solid walls on the cage. The panels just don't produce a lot of BTU to keep up with the amount of air that would pass by when outside.

I have been wondering if the Heat Projector from ReptileUV.com would work well for outside. I am sure it would work a lot better than the ceramic heaters that don't direct heat, they just make everything around them really hot.

ha yeah Oxnard weather drives me NUTS...like today it's sunny and beautiful! We went out to the beach...it's cold and windy annoyyyying if you ask me! BUt for the chams its okay since we have the back yard fencing to block most of the wind...yeah some days it takes longer for the sun to come through but its out before 12 for sure...But the nighs is what concernes me..this is why I bring them in on there own plants for the night, or I cover them up.

Yeahh this looks great! Has anyone tried this yet?? I wonder If I were to get a couple of them...and put them above but in between the 3 cages if it would put off enough heat..I'll have to get one a test it out. Great Idea!

I really like that heating element Summoner.

I've decided to bring my panthers inside this winter but I would probably leave a verrucosus (which I hope i get someday) outdoor all year in San Diego with one of those.
