I want to get an outsalets but I'm wondering if I have the experience with chameleons first. I have had 2 veileds during my time of keeping reptiles. Should I keep panther/jacksons chameleons first? Or is it ok to go for oustalets, if its a cb from fl chams?
 
I definetly plan on that. From what Ive seen the care is similar to panther and veileds, but i am going in to further detail.
 
Oustalet's chameleons are a wonderful species and one on my favorites. They are undervalued in the chameleon world in my opinion.

They are a rewarding species. I keep mine outside for most of the year. Their appetites are amazing and they are relatively calm most of the time...from my experience. That doesn't mean you may not get one that is high strung. Most come in extremely dehydrated. If you could find a CBB or even a CH that would be preferable.
 
fl chams at least at one point had cb so hopefully they will again. Would you recommend this cage (exo terra 36x18x36) (same one I use for my veiled)

That exoterra looks to be glass which is a bad choice for most chameleons, although there are some exceptions to the rule. It's my understanding that these need a very large enclosure, like 3'x3'x4' minimum.

I use the exo terra for my veiled chameleon and he's doing a lot better than he did in the full screen cage. It depends on where you live and the temperatures of the room you keep them in if you use glass. My veiled has a fan above his cage, and there is little reflection because I have so many lights in my room. However, because of the oustalets needing bigger cages, I'll probably go with the dragonstrand, having more space for him to roam.
 
I use ExoTerra enclosures for the majority of my montane species. I actually prefer them to screen enclosures. But, this species gets so large and needs a ton of room. The bigger the better. That dragon strand won't even be enough when an Oustie is an adult....not even close actually. So, my advice would be get something cheaper like a reptibreeze, because you won't be using it long!!!
 
The largest dragonstrand is just a few inches away from the reptibreeze. Thats honestly what i'd prefer to use, the full screen did not work out for me when keeping chams. If its not big enough... what about this thing?

Not large enough for an adult. What issues did you have with screen cages?
 
A grown adult Oustie is going to need a 6x4x6 at least. They are big animals. And to be quite honest, I don't even feel the dimensions I listed before are adequate. I know that I go over board on space with my chameleons, but this species needs it.
 
Ousties can get very big and they are a long bodied chameleon, too. They will need lots of room. For a full grown adult, something on the scale of 3 or 4ft by 5 or 6ft tall is going to be what you'll need. Making your own enclosure will probably be the best option for something that big. Not trying to discourage you, but you should go into it with eyes wide open and all the info at hand.

Definitely hold out for a captive bred animal. The wait and extra cost are with it.

It's actually a lot of fun, too.

I made a great enclosure with very few tools (lots of elbow grease, tho!) and it turned out very nice. There are some great posts here to steal ideas from.
