Our new little boy and his new home :) **Pics**

We went to the All Maryland Reptile show today and was very pleased with the little fella we chose! He is about 3-4 months old and was captive bred. Within 10 minutes of putting him in his new enclosure, he was already eating and drinking. It was a blast to watch him explore, but now that he found the Pothos (which I cleaned according to a thread in the Enclosure section of the forum) I can't see him!!!

Once I figure out how to post pics, I will get them in here!

Thank you to everyone who helped me make sure he will have the happiest life possible!

Congratulations! What kind is he? We look forward to pictures and hearing about his development. There's a "manage attachments" button below the box where you type your posts, where you can upload pix from your computer.

try making a photobucket account it will give you image codes that you just paste in your thred and your all set

Photoucket was the way to go! He is a Veiled!

Cain- It was ok, mostly snakes, geckos and beardeds. But There was one guy who had all Veileds, all wild caught. They were looking thin and were wobbly...kind of sad for them :( Then there was another guy who has a few Veileds...he was very knowledgeable and had nice big healthy ones. The guy we got ours from had 3 Veildeds and answered every question we had and guaranteed all of his reptiles.

Here are my pics!!!

Here is my son putting him in for the first time!

Here he is hunting already!

Then, of course, after all the hard work, he was thirsty!

Here is his home!! Well, that is until he gets bigger, then he will have a custom built home!

I was just reading some more and I think I am going to find some plants to hang down over the back and sides so he can't see his reflection at the bottom. He stays at the top but seems to like to feed at the bottom.

Any other changes I should make?

You can try cup feeding so he doesn't have to go to the bottom. Try getting a small tub or perhaps milk carton(cut in half) and hanging it on the side about half way down. Put a branch over it so he can perch while hunting. Try to make it big enough that he can hunt a little bit, but not so big that it takes up the whole enclosure. What is that shiney thing under the basking spot? Make sure there is no water in the bowl at the bottom.

He's cute by the way. Any pictures of the dad?

The shiny thing is a feeder cup. He ate out of it yesterday with no problems (a good 4 crickets), but seems to prefer going down to the bottom to hunt. I offered both this morning and he had no interest in the cup bu i am sure if I give him no other option, he would because he has.

There is no water bowl in the enclosure, he has a drip system. I mist the plant and he drinks well. The rock looking bowl on the bottom is just there for looks and it is holding down the carpet until it flattens.

Anything else that you see that I could improve on or change?

It looks okay to me, but those carpets are breeding grounds for bacteria. You may want to try aquarium lining. It's plastic but they have nice looking designs like rocks and stuff. If you make his a bigger feeder tub I bet he'll like it more. Or if you look up milk carton feeder, one of my chameleons will only cup feed from one of those.

Ok!

I have the Reptisun 5.0 linear UVB in there and a dome light with a 60 watt red bulb for basking (It was what I had here, we will get a new one later)

As far as the supplements go, we got the Repcal Phosphorus Free Calcium with D3, Repcal Herptivite and Repcal Calcium without D3 . How often of which one should he get? I was reading on the link that I was given to "Successful Keeping of Veiled Chameleons" but was wondering if you had any further advice?

I use those supplements as follows for my 4.5-5 month old veiled chameleon.

Week 1:
mon-fri: calcium without d3
sat: none
sun: calcium with d3

week 2:
mon-fri: calcium without d3
sat: none
sun: vitamins

week 3:
repeat week 1

week 4:
repeat week 2 without vitamins.

Congrats he`s so cute :D The pic with your son is lovely. I`m sure he`ll bring you all hours of joy. :D

Thank you sallyb! We are already enjoying him so much!! He seems so content in there and seems very comfortable!

Congrats on your adorable new arrival! I hope he gives you all the pleasure you hope he will bring and that you enjoy many years of happiness together. I know the excitement I just got a 13wk baby panther and am so wanting to play with him knowing it is hands off right now while he settles in. Enjoy!

Cute little guy you have :) I would switch out the red bulb for a regular household type. They associate the light with heat, and a place to bask in...much cheaper than the red ones too!
