Our beloved dog has lung cancer

Hello all,

I just wanted to first thank the community for helping me get started with chameleons over the past year. We now have 3 and cant picture our lives without them.

Unfortunately, im also here to ask for more help. Our dog has been diagnosed with lung cancer. She is still happy and vibrant but it has been financially difficult to get to the diagnosis and now for her future treatment.

If you are able to contribute, we have a go fund me page going. If not, passing the link along would be just as helpful.

Thank you all in advance!

I am so sorry to hear about Lilly. My dog also has cancer. https://www.chameleonforums.com/sad-sad-news-vet-yesterday-86246/
He was diagnosed with lymphoma in June 2012. He went through 6 months of chemotherapy and has been in remission since his first treatment. Our bank gave us a charge card with a 0% interest rate for one year and that year ran out a while ago but I have been able to keep transferring the balance to a different charge card with 0% so we have been very lucky. What kind of treatment do they do for lung cancer?

I'll keep you and Lilly in my thoughts and prayers. I shared your site on my Facebook page. I hope it helps.

Oh Jann, you have always been so sweet. I'm sorry to hear about your boy but glad he is in remission. What kind of dog is he?

I am fortunate enough to work for a specialty and emergency veterinarian and so i'm able to make payments with no interest and we get a great discount but unfortunately the costs have been daunting. As i'm sure you read in the campaign, her insurance policy is not covering anything.

There are a couple ways to treat lung cancer. The aggressive form is for her to go into surgery to remove a lobe or two of her right lung. We're taking the more conservative approach. Unfortunately, we have to factor in the fact that at the same time we found out about her lung cancer, we found out that she has largely unrelated mild liver disease. So, we're treating her liver disease to get her values down with an antibiotic and a liver supplement. Once her liver values are back to normal we will be treating her lung tumor with supportive care which involved an NSAID that will reduce the inflammation and size of the tumor. We chose the more conservative route as the type of tumor is very slow growing and she is asymptomatic and didn't feel that putting her through a very painful and hard recovery surgery when we can keep her happy and comfortable with supportive care. I'm very lucky to work with a great internal medicine and oncology team.

You and your clan will be in my thoughts. I see that Lottie and Hendershot have had a rough time recently. Thank you so much for being willing to repost. It really means a lot.
