Open wound by eye and purple ring around eye

I just got my baby veiled chameleon yesterday from the pet store. I just noticed tonight that there is a tiny open wound behind his right eye. I'm not sure what if could be. Also, he has what looks like a light purple ring that goes around both eyes. Even more than that, his face has some brown markings on that are concerning me, as well as the purple rings and open wound. If somebody could help me, that would be awesome. As I am a first time chameleom owner.

I will try to upload a picture later on.

I will upload some tomorrow. I'm a little worried, but I hope it's not extremely bad. I got him from petco, if that helps out :/

Hi!

Well...the hard, practical answer is to take it back to Petco and ask for a replacement. However, that's not the nice answer and you're probably a nice person.

Can you put some neosporin on it? I'm sure that someone here with more experience will have a better suggestions, but that's the best I've got.

I was thinking of neosporin but I didn't know. I am going to dust the crickets in the vitamin supplement; I don't know if that will hav any effect. But I will post pictures of him tomoroow when he wakes up. Hopefully, (I know this a very long shot) he will be better and not need extreme vetinary attention.

Thanksfor the advice, I'll post pics tomorrow along with further observation.

Neosporin is fine. It sounds like he had a bad encounter during transport or storage or something. Your description sounds like bruising.

okay thanks. My computer won't let me upload the pictures, so I will give the neosporin a try today. All the baby veiled chameleons there did have the brown markings, so maybe it was from transport.

Thanks for the help. I'll let you know what the outcome is with my chameleon, Reptar.

I was wondering if the open wound could be a burn? Because he likes to crawl on the ceiling of the cage and try to walk around the basking light, but I tried to shew him away and maybe he turned his head and burn it? Would a burn be open like that for the first day?

It's possible. Are you able to measure the temperature in the top 6 inches of the cage? You might be better off elevating the light off the top.

I would take it back and get a replacement. I know that might be hard to do, but if it dies on you past the guarantee you're out however much you spent on the little guy. And if it's a good pet store, they will try their best to get it back to health. Or at least ask for a refund or credit.

How old is it?

I don't think the wound is that bad enough that I would have to take him back. Its probably no bigger than the tip of a pencil. The lady said she didnt know how old he was and they had him in store for the last 3 weeks. Im not sure if this wound is that severe. It doesn't look as bad today, and he was the last one they had at the store.

No, the basking light sits about 8 inches above the vine.
But the basking light does air on the top of the cage, which he still possibly be burnt if he went up there.

Im going to keep an eye on my chameleon. Its nothing severe like returning him to the store because the wound is looking better today. Tomorrow i'll put some neosproin on it. I mean, this "wound" if it even is is small than the ball at the end of a pin.
Im sure the bruises will go away soon, or maybe its just coloring from when he was a baby
Like I said, he's probably around 3-5 weeks old. He still has a long life ahead of him. Besides, its not like he has a giant gash down his side or a wound that runs in with the eye.

I didn't fully read everything, but you want to use neosporin WITHOUT the pain relief-just plain neosporin (or comparable triple antibiotic ointment without pain relief).
