Oorana Mena

Is this a legitimate line of Panthers. I know if you want to start a new breed of Dogs in the AKC you have to jump threw many hoops and it takes years to develop a new so called pedigree. Screameleons is is selling these at very high prices. I think the colors are awesome but it is it considered just another crossbreed?

I was wondering the same thing. They are mainly red, white, and blue. I suppose they are considered the "American Chameleon". Lol. They also didn't specify which species they crossbred in order to get this breed. I'm curious.

No that is not a cross breed, they are AKA NOSY FALY which are on the higher spectrum of pricing in panther chameleons. No need to question screameleons they are legit as it gets.

Oorana Mena is Malagasy for “red rain
Also the only chameleons that are crossed are specified as designer on their website so everything else if from specific locales. You can browse their gallery and you can see.

I'm actually planning on puchasing my next Chameleon from Screameleons. What decides if a Cham is "higher priced"? Is it that they are rare and not bred by many breeders? Or is it that they are just in higher demand by the customers? I plan on getting an Amilobe but noticed price fluctuations on the different Panthers.

The answer to this is YES. You will see a pair of Mitsio go for approx $1000. Faly's (Oorana Meena = Red Rain in Malagasy) are about $300-$600 depending. Age plays a factor, if it is a breeder "Hold Back", demand, and rarity. In some cases not even that they are "rare" but certain colors or a particularly beautiful animal. Ppl put a lot of money into breeding healthy chams, ppl should not expect years of hard work and dedication to go for cheap...you get what you pay for. :)

price

I think they were asking upwards of 900 for the NOSY FALY I think that's way to much. As long as people pay the price they will get it. Bright colors are nice but I admire the panther for the way he lives. I feel bad he is stuck in my cage so I try to make it nice for him! If I can have him with bright colors that's just icing on the cake.

Thanks I didnt know they were NOSY FALY where does the other name come from?

Oorana Mena is Malagasy for Red Rain. So as the ambanja and ambilobe locales have been referred to as the "Rainbow" panthers that is Screameleons name for the Nosy Faly. They also refer to the Nosy Mitisio as "Mafana" which I think is Banana but I am not 100% positive on that. Again, both locales less commonly seen, especially in the US and thus (and rightly so) more expensive.

PS be careful how you word things, this thread came off sounding very negative regarding Screameleons and in my experience they are awesome breeders and ppl in general. They have fantastic customer service (which is rare these days). If their animals are too expensive for you, look at other breeders. If you are look for a Faly - not many breeders have them right now. A couple of the forum members do though. :)

They dont currently have any Faly's for sale (I know cuz I am researching getting my next cham):) . You are looking at their past sales. Those were probably from a few years ago so they may have been breeders they were selling or who knows.

Edit: Thier website is a little confusing...I think they are working on it. If you click "Shop" it shows the list of thier current availabilty. If you click on the specific panther type on the left hand side those are past sales. Some of them still show price, but that almost messed me up when I got Claude from them back in April lol that is why I know.

900? i have faly babies ill sell you cheaper then that, but you can get em cheaper still, just all depends on what you want.

No negativity intended.

I think they have beautiful specimens and have heard good things about them. I just wondered if they have been breeding for so long if it was permissible to breed your own line of Panthers. Thats how most of the dog Breeds have become what they are today. At some point they stop being from other countries and become "USA". With dogs we tend to try and improve on a species and maybe its good or maybe it should be left alone. If you keep breeding the Best of breed you get the "BEST". Why not put your personal stamp on it as long as its all documented and allowed. I dont think reptiles has progressed that far yet. I apologize if I came off sounding negative. I still dont like the price but I have been know to spend a pretty penny on a purple ribbon champion puppy lol. That doesnt mean I cant complain about it. lol Have a nice day and thanks for your info. I am also looking for a female Ambanja thats why I was on teir website. I have a male from FL Chams and was looking to get a female from another breeder. I admire the NOSY FALY colors they are awsome!

What are you trying to say here. You keep comparing dogs and making them look like they are making their own breed if I didn't take you out of context. This is a specific locale chosen and breed within same locale. They go for high dollars but $900 is really high. Rob has some sweet looking Faly's as he said check them out.

Your also taking prices from a company who sales almost $400 baby ambilobes. So take it for what that is.

Now look what you made me do. I go to their site and they got nicely priced female sambavas and I think I could use one. :roll eyes:

Ok, question simplified.

Can a breeder take a certain color strain and keep breeding it until he develops his own NEW Strain of Panther> Just like breeders do with all other species of domesticated pets, sheep, cattle, dogs, chickens etc. They do it with every thing else. I was wondering if they do it with reptiles. I am sorry if you find this confusing I thought I was clear on my question. Thanks

sambavas

I saw them I think they are nice!! I was thinking the same thing but I cant get ahead of myself maybe next year. lol

Tommyboy, I understand your reference to dogs. I purchased to French Bulldogs 10 years ago(long before people knew what they were) and I paid 4,000.00 each. Made Ch out of both of them. My male only took 9 months. :)
So I understand you aren't comparing the two but trying to wrap your brain around pricing and breeding as a dog or horse person would.

well if you keep breeding said locale with the same locale you will get a variation of the same locale AKA color scheme. You can cross locales and make a more not so common distinct look to certain locales. Yes breeders selectively breed certain colors and maintain that look through many years. Its very obvious when you look at the lines. I can guess the typical variations of ambilobe a mile aways. Some are harder than others as they are all panther chameleons and some locales resemble each other more than others. To actually brand a chameleon color scheme or locale I think would be frowned upon. People already look down on crossbreeding of locales. To actually selectively cross breed to have a trademark color for yourself is something I haven't heard of and don't see people with any care to do that. Also siblings sires can look totally different that each other especially when dealing with crossed clutches the variations would seem to had to actually come out with anything consistently enough to label you own. People should be satisfied with simply keeping these animals and successfully breeding locales not playing mad scientist. These aren't dogs and sheep.

Oorana Mena AKA Nosy Faly is a locale what town they come from or island in madagascar:D I have a few screameleon line Chameleons.
