On the Prowl?

My female veiled, Cami, has just recently (after her clutch of 41 back in December), become receptive again towards my male. This week and last she will turn bright green and poka-dotted for him whenever she comes in sight of him. They are friends again!

Here is what makes me nervous, though... ever since she has become receptive again, she can't stop doing laps around her enclosure! She is eating and drinking wonderfully, will bask in her light sometimes, but other times I will walk into my room and she will be crawling upside down on the top of the terrarium, or acrossed the bottom of her terrarium. She is never stationary at the bottom. SO what is up with her? She is typically pretty lazy Is this just because I got her all "hot-and-bothered" at the sight of her man?

That would be my guess...she's seen the delicious dude and she wants him!

This might just be me (I suspect not) but I don't think they should be able to see each other unless breeding is on the immediate agenda.

Haha I agree with that! I have been doing alot of homework at my dining table, and she is my shoulder buddy. She typically rides around on my shoulder when I'm just sitting around the apartment. Normally she is out of sight in my bedroom! So the last couple of weeks I will glance at her on my shoulder and she watches him, and she will be just SO happy! What a flirt

Glad this is normal, I was worried! Especially with the vet saying she looked wonderful... my "Mom" mind kicked in and was trying to think of unknown health possibilities!

It's not really funny because, unless I'm seriously ill informed, seeing a male can trigger her egg production....that's going to be stressful and even dangerous for her. You don't want her to make eggs if at all possible....exposing her to delicious dudes is dangerous.

If I am wrong correct me, but don't females typically produce eggs 80-100 days after their first clutch? How would seeing the male be dangerous for her if she has already had successful egg-laying experiences?

From what I've heard, they can produce at least 4 clutches a year, but that's not really desirable. Every time she lays it takes something out of her. The fewer clutches she has the better. Unless you are breeding her, so expecting viable eggs, it's sort of your responsibility to try to reduce the number of times she lays eggs.

Right, I understand that, but I am sort of expecting more eggs at around the 3 month mark. She has not been bred again, but I know after one fertile clutch, it is not unusual to have a second clutch as a product of that breeding. Good thing is, these sightings did not happen too often, or daily. It was more she would sit on my shoulder, I would notice that she was really still and he was all huffed up, then she would go back to her home. Typically, they don't know the other exists!
