ok so im looking after my uncles panther cham for a week hes a bout 2 years old. He mentioned to me before he went to the vets because of this same issue but they gave him the all clear. Any ways, while hes in my care i've noticed he is alot less active then my veiled and seems a lot weaker. I don't think he has MBD as the vet gave him the all clear. His enclosure is quite small though and my uncles getting him a bigger one when he comes back. the problem is that he seems less active and alert. His eyes aren't sunk in or anything. He also sits mainly near the bottom of his enclosure. He's currently in one of those exo-terra glass with mesh top. What could the problem be?

**I can't really fill out the form which you guys usually ask for because I don't know the answer to some of the questions**

Basically though he has an exo-terra 10.0 reptiglo TUBE a 60w bulb for basking. His enclosure is about 18x18x18". He is being fed on mealworms crickets and locusts. They are also being supplimented. Temps are about 80F but he has those stupid dial thermometer and hygrometer by exo-terra. He said he has a digital one at home which he will be using when hes back.

If I had to make a guess , he is too hot and the glass is not giving him enough ventilation. How hot is the basking temp?

Also how old is he?

he's 2 years old and is in a 18x18x18 exoterra! Be nice and let him free roam while your uncle is gone. then your uncle will come back and be like "oh he seems so much happier." and then you can be like "duh, he was suffering from claustrophobia."

Yup...10.0 is a little overkill... and in a glass tank, that is way too small... It is a lot overkill. When your uncle gets back I would tell him you got him a Free Subscription to the best source of info you will ever find on Chams... And hand him a piece of paper that says ..."www.ChameleonForums.com". Sounds like he really needs to revise his husbandry practices... other wise that cham is going to suffer.

Mealworms=Bad feeder,
Reptisun 10.0=Over kill on UV for a panther
18x18x18 Glass Cage=Not a cage for a Panther(too small, Lacking Ventilation)

He is not active, Cause there is not enough space for him to be active.
He is at the botom of the cage because he is trying to escape the Intense lighting that is pounding into his little glass cell. If I were you I would even look for a better cage while you have him... You can probably find a good deal local on Craigslist or something. Start making the corrections for him. If he asks why you do that... Say his Cham was not acting healthy and you made some corrections to try to save him some headache, and to make sure you kept his Cham healthy for him while he was gone. Good Luck.

thanks for your help guys. Just to clarify though..my uncle basically rescued him off my cousins bf (his daughters bf). He hasnt had him long but since he has he has done alot for him such as getting him real plants etc. I will deff make sure he knows he needs a bigger enclosure. Also is 10.0 to strong for a panther then? Would 5.0 be better?

Socali I think you may have misread. I believe he has a reptiglo not a reptisun

Reptiglo 10 is ok. It is equivalent to a Reptisun 5

Sure Did...Thanks Ryan:). I was unaware that they are equivalents also...having only used ReptiSun...good to know. Thanks.

And Tryme...I hope it didn't seem like I was insulting your Uncle...Just trying to help out. It is great that you are helping him with his Cham.:)

Ask your uncle if he wants to live in his own car with a sun roof opening only. Jk dude!! yeah cage is really small for a 2 yr old panther. I don't want to repeat what everyone is saying, well its a good thing hes going to upgrade!!

Basking at 85 - 89 is where I keep mine. He seems very happy with it..

The best way is to keep adjusting it as you see him in the spot. If he spends all his time there it is not warm enough. If he is trying to always avoid it is too hot.

Yeah I will try my best, only problem is my uncle has him in that small enclosure atm until he comes back which is a shame.

Yh i'll do that tomorrow I think... as the weather today in london isn't all that lol. thanks for your help though. Would it be ok if I let him have a little roam around my front room as long as no one is around or any other animals.

That would work if there is stuff for him to climb on. If you have a fake plant or something even a lamp stand. He will want to get as high up as he can. You could clamp his basking light and give him a little basking area .. A make shift free range. :D Amke sure he keep an eye on him he may try to roam
