"Lord Howe Island Stick Insect. Thought to be extinct by 1920 after rats wiped them out. 24 insects were located on an isolated stack of rock protruding from the ocean 20 km away. All of them were captured and scientists have now bred more than 9,000 insects which will be returned to the island once the rats are gone."
