I knew it was coming with the passing heat wave here in San Diego. An army of black ants, has invaded both Mr. Echo's and Mr. T's homes. I removed all the poops and whatever else was in the VV, I knew I could not use any insecticides so I made a home brew of tabasco sauce, jalapeño juice and a little water. I misted this all over the bottom of the VV and on the branches and leaves. This seems to have the little buggers under control for the time being? Anyone else have to deal with ants?

I do here in Oklahoma. the black ones and the red ones. they are a pest. i don't even know how they get into my apartment. made my own killer out of the same thing you did. lol it works till i find the source and kill them all.

Do not use insecticides

If you use any insecticides they can be transferred to your feeders and eventually your cham.
There is an easier method that is completly natural. It will kill your feeders so use it with caution.
It is called diatomaceous earth. It enters the ant at the joints and starves it and dehydrates it. it can solve your ant problems a crawling insect problems in a couple of days. For a whole house treatment just dust a barrier around the whole house. For your cham cage just create a trail around the cage. In a few days you will have a ant free cage. Remeber to use with caution. If the earth gets in your feeder bins it will kill them too.

Good Luck

P.S. you can find at Home Depot

Thanks for the info. ill have to go and see how much it is here. that sounds really good for use. ill have to give it a try.

This time, every year, I get ants to in my cham room.
I use this stuff; it's mostly boric acid powder, works very well, but it's a bit messy, but cheap:

I know this is an old thread but thought I'd give it a shot. Is this not toxic to the chams if ingested? I am having an invasion of large black ants in my lizard room. They are leaving my chams alone for now but I obviously want them gone.

its a good topic, i just recently has piss ants, i think they like 3x foam... must taste good.
there is a product thats not really an insectiside, but works as one.
its called diatomaceous earth. it can be food grade, and does not(that im aware of) hurt reptiles. its like baby powder, but cuts the exoskeleton of the insect, and they dry out. its not poisionous.

Thanks. I am looking into that as an option. :)
