Nosy Faly x Nosy Be Panther

most people on here are "purists" and would say dont cross locales...but the Kammers and Screameleons do it and produce beautiful males...if you are going to try and sell them, it might be hard to sell the females unless you can find someone that doesnt plan to breed, or breeds crosses...its all personal opinion

Just say NO to crosses. Esp crosses of less common locales. Maybe if it was an Ambi x Ambanja. But the rare stuff like falys, mitsios, anks, tama's should be kept pure. We dont need to screw up the few faly lines we have coming in with crossed up females. Jmpo as a breeder and keeper.

i agree with this.. to each is own but why would you want to spend that kind of money for a faly to cross it?

Do you really think your going to " make " a better locale than what's in Madagascar already. There are so many locales to choose from why cross?

to me crosses arent wrong individually speaking

but if people continue to cross everything, then there wouldnt be any more for them to cross that are "pure".

the real whole point with keeping pure lines is to preserve what nature has developed the same ones madagascar produced and continue breeding them and preserve/honor their beauty.

as long as pures one exist then so will crossing, but the limited panthers of rare locales in the US make it essential for them to first be pure , then maybe one day , many years later when they become common, crossing them wouldnt be a big deal because their are more out there.

yes, i agree there are folks out there who want to keep lines pure. we need those people. crossing will happen, even if its by accident. the idea of producing weird colors combinations is a bit enticing though.

I own a cross and think they are absolutely beautiful, just as much so as the pures but I totally agree that some of these locals need to be kept pure. When you cant even find a mitsio (which I would give my right arm for a CB/CH baby!) or a faly or tamatave etc. as a pure animal to buy without 47 contacts and being a member of this forum and/or importing more WCs, I do not think we are in the position to be crossing them. We need to be working toward a sustainable captive bred population of each local as pure animals to breed from before we start messing with them. If not, eventually all the pures are going to be too old to breed from/with and they will die out and we will lose them all together.

I'm also an owner of a cross (an unplanned faly x ambanja) and love them as a general rule, but I guess I have to see the reason in other people's logic on this one. Keep the Falys pure for as long as we can, we still don't have enough of them to work with.

That being said, from an asthetic point, Falys and Nosy Bes look so similar most of the time that the offspring wouldn't be all that dramatically different. Even if your Faly was the type that is nearly all white and red, mixing it with blue would give you an animal that looks like most normal Falys. It's not as exciting as mixing something else.
