:eek:so i went to get some crickets today at my feeder supply store & its sounds like that problem ive been hearing about down south with that cricket sickness has made its way up to ontario canada. my feeder guy says things should be back to normal in a couple of weeks. in the meantime ive loaded up on silks, supers & butters.
so my question is, how much do i have to worry about keeping my chams on a worm ony diet for a couple weeks? up here we cant get roaches so im worried about not having a feeder that i could give the usual gutload to...
im guessing mostly silks would be my best option for the time being?

or some super worms?

I wouldn't go nuts with the butters.. very fatty. You need to make sure you get something with a shell to mix it up with all those soft bodied worms.

say what? where do you get your crickets at man? im scared now i havent gotten my weekly supply of crikets :S lol

Mail order some crix. There has to a cricket supplier north of the border.

ya, buddy could be playing it up a bit but hes pretty reiliable. he said hes been searching around & was only able to find 5000 total for the last week or so & theyre long gone. imma check into it further when i get to the pc but its got me nervous none the less. did you guys have the crix issue down your way? ive never heard of anybody having mantids around here either. hope i can find a supplier who hasnt run into the problem. im gonna have to pay off my credit card dammit!

You need not worry whatsoever. Your chameleon will be fine on a larva diet for a month if needs be. You can and should gutload the superworms just as you do crickets. Supers will provide the chinton that crickets provide. Butterworms are LESS fatty than superworms. (check the nutrition charts folks if you dont believe this) So do not have concerns about using butters. Silkworms can also be gutloaded with the regular mulberry chow AND with dandelion leaves and carrot shavings.

A nice mix of all three feeders will be absolutely fine.

You might consider joining a local reptile club. I suspect you could find roaches and stick insects available for enriching the chameleon diet.
