Nighttime Lighting

Hello,

I am looking for guidance for our family chameleon Spyro.

We are looking to relocate him in our house, and am curious how strict to be on nighttime darkness we need to be. He’s currently in a location that can gets very dark, but not the most convenient location for humans (our dining room… we’ve avoided hosting family next to the roaches 😂).

There are a few spots we can move the cage to, but in our house, generally the more accessible the area, the more likely to be lit past his normal 7-7 or 8-8 darkness schedules (i think i cut basking at 7 or 8 with UVB cutoff at half past). How much light is acceptable? If none, are their covers or flaps we can put that are safe/effective?

Hey there welcome to the forum... I avoid overhead lighting at night and I cut a blackout curtain to fit the cage. I attached command hooks to the frame of the cage on the outside and then sewed rings to the ends of the curtain so it would hang perfectly. I did cut the the curtain so that the bottom 4 inches were open screen for airflow. So I put this on when his lights go off then take it off in the morning when lights kick on in the cage.

I have used this the last 5+ years with Beman and it has worked really well. Here are a few pics when I first set this up way back when lol. The back of my cage had a solid backing so only the front and sides were done.
