Hey everyone.

I just wanted to let all of you know that Jo used her tongue for the first time since I got her in November. She can't shoot it like a normal cham, but she can stick it out about three inches. I have finally figured out how to get her to eat on her own, but I still (sort of) need to help her. It sounds a little bit unorthodox, but it is the only thing that has worked repeatedly.

At first, I tried the standard bowl feeding. I just put some crickets into a container and put it underneath her. No interest whatsoever.

Next I tried putting her in the bowl with them. Her only mission: get out of the bowl.

Last week I tried just leaving them in the bag they came in, and she actually showed interest in them, but still didn't get any. This week, I held the bag up to her, and she immediately started looking at them and didn't focus on anything else. However, as soon as I moved, it broke the concentration. So I tried again, and didn't move and just let her do her thing. She ended up climbing in the bag with them and ate about 10 without my help.

Incredibly weird, but this has worked for three days in a row now. So I guess this is how I have to feed her now if I want her getting some independence

Congrats I'm happy for you! It sounds like you have dedicated some serious time and that you actually care about her no matter her condition! Post like this one make my days! Haha

well that is just great news! Even if she crawled inside the bag, she is eating on her own!! I admire your dedication!

Good to hear that you are making progress with her.;)
So now we have cup feeding, bin feeding, and bag feeding:p

Thanks everyone!

I think that she might feel more secure in smaller spaces. Is this weird for chameleons? She is always climbing in a pocket or up my arm sleeve or into the hood of a sweatshirt. She never goes to sleep, but kind of pokes her head out and watches everything. Does anyone else's do that?

That being said, I'm not surprised that she ate while in a tiny bag. It seems to be her comfort zone.

Thats interesting. I know they dont like to eat if they feel stressed, so maybe the cover is reassuring for her?

Needless to say, she wasn't really all that hungry tonight, so she did not eat on her own. When I offered her one, she ate. Here are some pictures nonetheless :)

Oh, and if anyone has any information on chameleon liking inclosed spaces, that would be cool :)

Actually i do, My cham Sweeney Loves to hide in tight spaces, He has a hanging pothos plant and the only way he will sleep is if he has crawled through the vines and laid down in the middle of the plant, mind you, his tail hangs out and his head sticks out slightly, but none the less he has made an attempt to sit and hide lol. Very odd. He's a fruit. he also likes sitting between the screen and the hanger where he cannot be seen and is hidden by leaves.

He is perfectly healthy however, very active during the day, eats like a champ, everything is good, but thats his happy place!

She is improving and eating on her own. That tells me you are working hard with her and getting results. KUDOS'

Aw so happy for Jojo. Not conventional but hey, if it iworks for her, and you odnt have to hand feed her quite as much, great for you!!! keep up the good work with her.
