hello everyone i am new here on this forum and very new to chams. i would however love to get some of these great little guys i do have some questions though
1. i have seen everyone using either gravel or clay pellets in there substrate can i use a false bottom instead
2. where can i get cb babies i cant find them anywhere?? if there are none around can anyone tell me of someone that has wc
3. does the whole top of the tank need to be screen or would this be to much?
sorry for all questions but i will probly have more :)
thanks
Danny

Whole cage screen, you will want about a 16 by 16 by 30 for a baby veild and a repti sun 5.0 with a 60 watt heat bulb(house bulb) For basking. Go to LLL reptile, they have all sorts of cb babies, or their are lots of people on here that could help you

Danny's questions are for pygmy chameleons I believe.

Danny- what species chameleon are you interested in?

hello everyone thanks for the replys i guess i should have said these questions are for pgymys sorry bout that.. altough im not sure what species

By false bottom what to you mean? like a fish tank with holes drilled in the bottom? I guess that would work ive never seen it before.

CB babies are had to come by! ive been looking but ive decided on some WC ones instead.

i use one of those mesh toppers for my tank (I dont hvae any yet but i hvae had the tank set up for a month or so now so i could moniter temps/humidity, and make sure i wouldent kill my plants...)

Hi there Danny!

Hi there Danny! Where do you live? Spend some time on this site and check out all the species if you haven't made up your mind. When you figure out the species then you can narrow your focus to the proper set up. Welcome and enjoy!

hello Dunnigan what i mean by false bottom is plastis egg crate (basically plastic grid used as light difusser in drop cielings) wrapped with screen. this is used to keep the substrate out of direct contact with the water. it would be used instead of gravel or leca
PardalisGir am looking for Rieppeleon brevicaudatus and i am in new york

I would go for supplies from LLL reptile, not the cham though. I had an unpleasant experience. Buy from a breeder here on the forum, you'll be much happier, I was

Ive been looking for CB for a while...they are going to be hard to find cause the females only lay 4 eggs at a time :-/ so..."supplies are limited"

Im settling for some WC.

The only place i know of that has WC ones in stock is Lostlake, I know Flchams is out.

Hi Danny,

A false bottom is fine- most people just go with hydroton or gravel for ease of use, availability and a natural look. Just make sure you get the layer of activated charcoal in there to filter any run off.

As for the top, keep it screen. These little guys need airflow and the tank can't stay damp and still. It is almost preferable to have a small fan around to circulate air on occasion. Keep it fresh ;)

By the way, pygs usually like their vivs to be longer rather than taller. This will also help keep airflow at a good level.

hi kenya
thanks for the reply. screen it is and maybe a fan
as for the false bottom i got a ton of eggcrate and stuff so i think i will go with that (one less thing to buy) question thought about how high should it be ? would i make it as high as all the caresheets say to make the leca? or should i go higher/lower i cant image there would be alot of runoff just from misting 2x a day
Thanks Danny

I would use the same depth that lyca would be, maybe a bit more if you are unsure. Better to have a little extra wiggle space with drainage than too little.
