..i've had many little herp buddies before, but this is my first chameleon. and first lil guy i've ever had to feed fruit flies.. he's young (couple months if that) and i just got him all settled in today.. im sure he's big enough for the smallest crickets but im unsure of how to go about feeding with these fruit flies.. seems like they'll just hop out of the screen cage.. help please.. im getting crickets tomorrow morning but i know he's hungry!

Have you actually fed them to him and they did hop out? Otherwise, I'd try if with a few. Fruit flies tend to not do well climbing the sides of smooth sided plastic cups especially when dusted with vitamin or calcium powder, which you should be doing. You could always try cup feeding him. Good luck.

Are they d. Hydei or d. Melanogaster? You shouldnt have any issue keeping in hydei, with melanogaster you'll probably get some out. But with fruit flies, its almost inevitable that your going to have some get out at one point or another.

Best thing to do is throw the cup in the freezer for about 3-5 minutes to slow them down.they may appear dead, but once they warm up after throwing them in the cage they will be lively.
