Hello Chameleon lovers,

My Wife and I are new to the site, and new to Chameleons. We have always loved them but never owned one, until a few days ago. My Wife surprised me with one for our anniversary.:) We have allot of experience with fish but this is a first. A little about us. We live in Atascocita and have four children, 3 dogs, 3 cockatiel's and 2 small aquariums. We used to own a local fish store that imported discus.Well Ill save that for another day. I am attaching several quick pictures of the setup. Looking to get a 36x18x36 soon.

Welcome to the forums! congrats on getting your new chameleon! always exciting.

I know you didn't ask for any advice, but i noticed you have a waterfall in your terrarium. They look nice, but should be removed. It can be a breeding ground for bacteria and cause problems. Most of us mist our chameleons by either a spray bottle, or an automatic system. A dripper is also nice to use for running drinking water along with misting.

He looks like a nice male to start with :)

Welcome to CF!
Super glad you have found us!

As stated, most will recommend you get rid of the waterfall.

Please feel free to ask any questions you may have, and share your opinion on things as well. :)

Again, welcome!

sweet frog tank! yeah.... he looks good but concider getting a screen cage, its not aesthetically appealing like a glass one is but their own reflections can cause stress and the lack of air circulation can cause upper resperatory infections, im sure you noticed the veiled in the waterfall box. that dosnt mean its a good idea. unless youre willing to inspect it daily to make sure there is no feces or feeders. and clean it on a weekly basis at minimum. the surcafe is also porous so it will retain filth and bacterial growth. ive owned on for the exact same reason. flowing water for my cham, but its more trouble than its worth and a huge liability.

Hello, welcome to the forum :) He looks like a good little boy, and you setup looks great too. I also had a waterfall with my first Cham...........I agree with DekuScrub, it's just too much effort to keep properly clean.
Here's a general caresheet I always post for new people on here who have Veileds - https://www.chameleonforums.com/blogs/chameleonsinmyhouse/395-veiled-chameleon-care-sheet.html
Happy chamming, and I'm already looking forward to seeing more pics of what you do in his new cage.........

yeah, to amend what i said last night plenty of people have successfully kept chameleons in glass enclosures. it just seems there is a larger margin for error when using glass. at the very least i would try to ensure hes got some mild airflow. you can use a computer fan placed on top of the screen to accomplish that. it is a nicely furnished enclosure tho.

i would also only use that substrate if its live moss. (youre still goin to need to keep it clean)

do you have plans on how to remove excess water?

Welcome! I have a waterfall with my Cham a lot of people do say not to use them but I clean mine at least once a week. But 99% of the time it gets cleaned every few days and more if there is feces or dead crickets in it. Your Cham is adorable by the way!

what are you gonna do if your chameleon poops in it, and drinks out of it before you get a chance to clean it?????

I was wondering if I could use a fan facing up to pull some air from the bottom vents.

I am using the faux moss mat, plan to clean once a week or every other week.

Thank you, We used to import live tropical fish Known for discus. We are no stranger to care needed. Discus required 90% water changes every day at our shop.I think A little waterfall will be easy. Will be checking often throughout the day to waist.

Welcome to the forums DNA! What type of lighting are you using in there?
As of now a 5.0 and a 10.0 as well as an infrared heat lamp when needed.

Got to hand feed him tonight. This was Awsome...
How often do I need to dust? every 2 weeks? and what do you guys recommend?
How much does he need to eat and how often?

I check it every morning mid day and night. He never has drank out of it that I have seen he always drinks either off the leaves or right out of the spray bottle ( he loves climbing on the front of it while I spray when he does this I spray very soft so I don't hurt him). However I know there is that chance he could drink out of it before I get to it. But with checking it 3-4 times a day I was told by his vet he should be good :)

awesome looking cham dude. veileds are beauitful with an awesome don't mess with me additude. I'd recommend you building a bigger cage for him it would be cheaper then buying one and you can make repairs easily if need be id suggest 24-24-48 of up the 24 inches to a 3 footer if you have the room. best of luck any question just feel free to pm me and ill be glad to ask most people want you to fill out a form but all you gotta do is hit me up!!!
