So I wanted to start free ranging our new boy a little. We bought a weeping fig tree and put it next to the cage with the door open and within 2 hours he was out and all around it. He I thoroughly enjoying his new tree. How long can we leave him out? Will he know to go back to the heat/light/water in the cage where he is used to it being? He has been in out and all over this new tree... I would like to get him more, but a misting system in an open setup isn't reasonable with hardwood floors ... :(

Welcome to the forms! Your little guy is a cutie. He could stay away from the lights for two to three hours.
You will need to watch him carefully because he will get down off of the tree and roam around and you don't want him to get lost in your house and if you have other pets they could hurt him.

Being able to free range is great for a chameleon because of the air flow and freedom but I would suggest putting him back in his cage at night and when you aren't home as you could easily lose him and he could get hurt. especially if you have other pets.

He's adorable and best of luck with your new cham.

We had a hell of a time trying to get him back in his cage!!!!! Took about an hour since we are not handling him much now... Thankful for fake vines we had in hand!!

Lol I handle my cham when he is calm so I can socialize him more. If you just spend a lot of time in front of your cham in general he'll start to warm up to you and other people.
