New veiled chameleon owner

You're going to need to upgrade your lighting as soon as possible, not when you upgrade your cage which should probably be sooner rather than later anyway. But the lighting is priority #1. The coil/compact UVB doesnt provide enough for your cham and will cause health issues if not addressed. The blue bulb also needs to go, it is known to cause eye issues. You can replace it with just a regular incandescent house bulb. Just make sure it's not LED.
I have gotten 24 inch tubes. Thanks for the info. I am also not seeing many poops. She also eats everything in about 15 min maybe she needs more? I just don't want her to grow rapidly and have alot of eggs.

I'm not familiar with female veileds, I know you're supposed to restrict their eating to avoid large clutches, but I think that I'd after they have become sexually mature. I believe that at her age you're going to want to give her as much as she will eat.
Someone more experienced will surely come around and give you more detailed info.

The lights can hang over the edge of your current enclosure, its fine
Thank you. I have ordered the single bulb 24 inch light fixture and the proper 10 tube bulb. I will use the old fixture for basking lights. I have attached some photos for assessment of potential age, health and any suggestions. I also will upsize the cage too in a couple months. I let her eat a few crickets by holding the cup for her each day and she seems calm. I then leave the cup in the cage and she eats everything in about 10 min. I have a tall artificial ficus which I attach a vine to and let her come out. I have done this every other day this week and she always comes out within 30 min. She roams around and then returns to cage about 15 min later. I haven't handled her but I am wondering if this free ranging is good to do. She seems trusting but I don't want to stress her. I have photos of the 2 repashy supplements I have. How do I best use them? Thank you

Glad to hear you got your lighting ordered! You said it's a single bulb fixture? If you have a 10.0 bulb in a single bulb fixture it's going to produce a lot of UVB. Typically you want a 5.0 in a single bulb fixture and a 10.0 in a multi bulb fixture. You can make it work by putting more distance between the bulb and the highest basking branch, but the only way to be sure you're providing accurate UVB and not blasting your cham with too much is to buy a Solarmeter 6.5. It's an investment but trust me it is worth the peace of mind. I just got mine recently and it is so much better than to have and not need than not have and wish you did.
As for the free ranging, it's a great idea! Let her get used to coming out of her enclosure via the vine you attached, then eventually you can remove the vine and offer yourself as a path to the tree. This is a great way to start to build a trust between you and your cham. Just remember, ALWAYS on their terms! If it seems like your cham doesnt want to come to you then just leave it be.

For sexing your cham, if you could post a close up picture of the backs of the rear feet we can offer you a sex. I couldnt even try to give you a rough age but I can tag some members who may be able to.
@Brodybreaux25 @Beman

Your enclosure looks good save for the lighting which you have on the way. You're going to need to upgrade sooner rather than later. When you do you should pack it full of live plants to help with humidity and to offer more hiding places so your cham feels more comfortable in its cage!

Oh I forgot about the supplements. You can actually use the calcium LoD on every meal. It's an all in one supplement so you dont have to add more supplements to your schedule :)

If she is 5 months......She has graduated from small crickets and I am feeding her medium sized gut loaded crickets. I feed in the morning and only once a day about 6 to 8 crickets and one gut loaded super worm freshly cut up as seem too big. She waits for her food as I feed in a cup and then eats it all steadily within about 20 min. I notice she looks in the cup during the day. Is this not enough food? I want to have her grow well but not lay clutch after clutch of eggs. I have had her 5 weeks and she has definitely grown quite a bit and is very active. She has not shed as far as I know though. Is this abnormal? She has her tube light now too and is drinking well with her mister and drip. Thank you.

Since she is not sexually mature yet I’m thinking you can just feed her more. Some one will correct me if I’m wrong. As far as the shed, she could have shed right before you got her. At this age I think they normally shed once a month. If she looks like she has grown that’s a good sign and hopefully a shed will come soon. :)

She is not fully grown, continue normal feeding schedule. No need to cut the supers, at this age she can handle any super.
You are right. She eats them whole. I have just ordered a new cage. The large dragon strand keeper cage. Don't have it yet but new tube light is installed and I have set up a good drainage system. I live in SF Bay area so humidity seems to run at 40-60%. I have a mister going intermittently during the day every 2 hours for 1 minute and trying to get a good dripper going too. I wonder if with drainage now I should increase mist time to 2 min. It dries between mistings now and do I also need a fogger at night? I would rather not have to run that in the room she is in if not really needed. Oh She is eating from my hand now. Major accomplishment. And growing well.

Since your in my neck of the woods don’t go to wildwood vet in Redwood City. One of the stupid vets peeled the shed off my female and now her back spines are gone

A lot of keepers, including myself, recommend misting sessions of atleast 2-3 mins and one longer one during the day. This give the chameleon time to clean their eyes and stimulates them to have a drink. As long as the cage has a dry period in between mistings, your cham will be fine.

You dont NEED a fogger at night, but, If you listen to the chameleon breeders podcast on naturalistic hydration you will learn that most chameleon get the majority of their hydration through respiration during the night time humidity rise. I havent attempted this method yet myself but I do have one misting set for 3 minutes as the lights turn off.

My chameleon is doing well. Growing. Eating. Drinking. Free ranging but I cannot find any poops. She has never been a frequent pooper but I am getting concerned. She also has a new hibiscus which she munches on.
Sometimes their poop is hard to find especially if there is dense foliage...good to hear the Cham is well.:)
