so after a long hard week dealing with a sick male jackson i had purchased from petsmart, i did the right thing by scheduling an apt with a herp doc and took him back to petsmart so they could make him better...ive been following up with them to make sure they are doing their job and it seems as if they are...i ordered a beautiful male veiled chameleon from reptmart and couldn't be happier... hes about one year old and is A LOT healther than the jackson i purchased. i have him in a lil cage but just purchased a 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 by 4 ft enclosure ill be transferring him to today and throw a hibiscus plant in there as well as some vines and what not. he seems very healthy and im over all satisfied with their business. ill post a pic of this lil guy soon, hes a fiesty one!

hes year old, healthy male and is in a 23in by 19in by 36 and im scared he wont find his food...he refuses to eat from my hand...i have a hibiscus plant in there along with a stump for his basking area and a small pond for water at the bottom along with various fake fines and what not hanging...please help with advice

excited!

well im excited to say I received a new healthy male veiled that is stunning from reptmart as an exchange for the sick one they shipped me originally, what great customer service they offer! I suggest them to anyone! I just purchased a reptbreeze 18x18x36 screen cage and the big guy is happy as can be, ill post pics of the set up and pics of Reptar Jr (in memory of my Jacskon, Reptar Sr.) tomorrow! I'm excited to share my new family member with you all! I followed all your advice and put newspaper as a substrate, have the 5.0 repti glo UVB bulb on top and switched the heat lamp to a normal light bulb, 75 watts for a basking area. I'm using ice cubes as a drip system with bowls to collect the water and mist him 2 times a day. I'm gut loading the crickets and feed him about 4-6 a day and dust him with calcium WITHOUT D3 once a week or so...if there is anything i am doing wrong or could be doing better, please feel free to help...the cage has a 3 foot tall hibiscus tree vines, some fake foilage, a couple sticks for him to climb on, an artificial stump and so forth. I keep no lights or heat source on at night as it stays fairly warm in the house...I'm open for constructive criticism!

I was told not to use ice because it slows their systems down so they are unable to digest food properly. Something along those lines. Instead i use a water bottle i bought from the dollar stor that i attach a air valve system to with a thin tube to create a dripper. I can turn the vavle up to make it dripp more or down for less and i can turn it off completely at night. Here's a site with the air vavle i use. and the tubing http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=air+valves+for+fish+tanks&view=detail&id=954718DDC716E42EE4AB5F7C55FAD68D37932E06&first=0&FORM=IDFRIR http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=air+valves+for+fish+tanks&view=detail&id=B23219EFDA87B0E5B725A9DB5392F081A96E6458&first=151&FORM=IDFRIR
Or you can always be not so creative and go to the store and pick up a little dripper system http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=little+dripper+for+reptiles&view=detail&id=9C14FD256C425C64053868C03260D6CCC7DC378F&first=0&FORM=IDFRIR although for a baby veiled you might just want to get the big dripper because he will grow big
And misting 2 times a day isen't sufficent. He needs to be misted at least 4-5 times daily for at least 5 mins. I prefer to do this 8 times a day for 5 mins a peice. I have a misting system that kicks on for 30 sec's every hour as well but only sprays in various random spots so i still mist alot..Before misting make sure the cage is almost completely dry (as far as the leaf's are concerned usually is how i judge it) before you mist again to prevent mold and mildew build up.
Here is an excellent thread about hand mistig to give you an idea of what i'm talking about. https://www.chameleonforums.com/hand-misting-5565/

thanks skittles! will be checking it out...and i have a question, is he considered a sub adult or adult? He is huge! ill post a pic as soon as i get home! his body is probably every bit of 6 inches and tale another 6. The ice cube thing makes sense, ill not be buying a dripper from the pet stores id rather rig one myself or take advice from you or another member, seems to work better that way :p other than that, does everything seem alright? im sure you'll be able to judge better when i post pics today
