what is the white on the outside of your cage?, i dont know what it is, but i am starting to like your setup already, nice looking cham

Welcome, Jason!

Your cham is adorable and the cage looks very nice.
I don't see a UVB light, though.
If you don't have one on the cage, the best type to get is the long fluorescent bulb, not the compact fluorescent.
Hopefully, you have a means of checking basking site temperature, cage temps and humidity levels.
The only other suggestion is to feed a varied diet, don't oversupplement or undersupplement, and be sure to gut-load your feeders.
Since I'm a recent returnee to chameleon keeping and much that I had learned is now outdated info, I spend time every day poring over current posts and using the search button to find older posts on topics of interest.
This forum is a great place to learn.
Glad you've found it:)

Hey Jason welcome to the chameleons addicts. Don't worry that you only have one very pretty girl, after you get the first one the others start following it home. Not sure how they find each other but more chameleons just seem to appear!! But you will find that is ok as you will love them too.;)

thanks to all! now i know my slowpokes a girl! yay!

xanthoman: i believe what you are seeing is my wall. lol.

Minihuey: Yup San Mateo!

Lovereps: Thanks for your input, but what is the difference in the fluorescent bulb vs. the Compacts? ive always been using compacts for a few years now. I definetly will go purchase a new bulb for my fixture, whats best 5.0? should be fine right? My feeders ar all gut loaded. we buy crickets in bulk. like a box of 500-1000 depending if they are smalls or larges(many animals to feed). What would you suggest for her other than crickets? all my crickets take a nice vitamin bath before taking a vacation into slowpokes paradise. lol.

Hi Jason,
The problem with compact fluorescents has been pointed-out on these forums and is not something that I have any personal experience with. While you have used them for years, have you used them on chameleons? Perhaps other reptiles do not experience problems with CFBs and the eye troubles are "chameleon-specific".
It has been asserted that they can cause eye problems/blindness in chameleons. Judging by the experiences that I've read about, I am not willing to take any chances with my chams just to find-out for certain how troublesome the CFBs are.
You can search all the forums using "CFB" or "compact fluorescent" and can read about it for yourself.
As far as diet goes, variety is the key.
Imagine how healthy a person would be if he ate only one type of food and took a daily multivitamin.
In the wild, chameleons' diets consist of about 50 different types of insects.
By providing at least a few different kinds of insects we're at least getting closer to what they would choose and the variety helps to make for a better balanced diet.
Crickets, roaches, silkworms, butterworms, Phoenix worms (also called calci-worms and black soldier fly larvae) snails and flies are all good. Wild harvested insects pose the risk of pesticide and/or parasite contamination.
Size of food items matters, as too big prey can cause your cham to choke.
Oversupplementation with vitamins or calcium can cause as many problems as undersupplementation can.
There are forums on health and on food, so searching there will lead you to quite a bit of information.
Since I'm rather new, too I spend a great deal of time searching and reading.
I also pay attention to how long post-ers have been on the forum and how many other threads agree or disagree with whatever info has been posted.
All in all, these are great forums and I wish that all chameleon owners knew about them before they even got their new pets.
There's also a photography forum, if you want to re-post pics of your new cham--or you can post pics here.
Everyone here loves to see cham pics:D
In any case, welcome!
