New to Chams!

Hello,

After doing research for I can't say how many months, building a cage and getting all the supplies needed I finally got my first chameleon! I did get him at a pet shop but was impressed because the owner was also someone who has chameleons and wouldn't let me purchase until I could answer a bunch of questions about care and housing (which I already knew because of my research).

So, let me introduce Bob. He is about 3-4 months old. I'm happy with his progress to this point. He eats well and doesn't get too upset with me holding him. I've never seen him brown to this point (but that doesn't mean it won't happen!). I also try to get him out in the sun a couple hours a week.

I had a Bearded Dragon before that lived to be 9.5 years old. I thought it was time to upgrade!

And Bob!

He like the ear!

Bob is a cutie and looks like he will turn out to be a beautiful cham! Welcome to the forums. Cage and set up pics are always welcome!

Excellent to see a newbie that has done their homework. You have just increased your chams probable longevity by your research and dedication.

Welcome aboard the cham wagon...

Well, I did build my own cage, and this weekend it will get a bit of a makeover because I just didn't realize just HOW MUCH WATER would be used in misting properly!! I guess that is the nice thing about having an adult who isn't worried about the money when the animal is so important.

Here is an older pic of my current setup. I switch between the ficus (in this pic) and a hibiscus (that is currently getting sun).

I have a 24" Reptisun 5.0, a 100 watt basking bulb (spot is from 92-95 degrees). I also have a little dripper running and the new setup will have the little dripper and a big dripper (I have the big one, just don't have it in yet). As every cage, it is a work in progress. I now know the chameleon's habits and will be making some new "highways" that I know he travels!

Oh, I did trim the ficus a bit back from that pic. Yes, the bottom is getting re-done because of the water. I'm going to build a stand and put an urethane coating over the bottom ply and a drain hole for the water. The carbaord along the top is to keep crix in (my girlfriend can't stand bugs of any kind!)

So, here is an updated picture of Bob. It took like 10 or 15 times before I could get one that wasn't blurry!
