Hello everybody this is my first post. I am a first time owner of a 10 month old jacskson chameleon. I am picking him up tomorow but have a few questions about his cage set up. Is a ficus plant a good large plant to have inside his cage? Or what do you recommend. And is there such a thing as to much foliage inside his cage i want to make sure he feels safe. I have a heat lamp and uvb bulb and his cage is temping out mid 70s daytime and 60s nightime (this is twords the bottom of his cage) and finally what do you all recommend for night time lighting? Thanks for reading.

Temps sound good for the middle or lower sections, I hope the temps go a bit higher closer to the basking upper portions of his enclosure, maybe lower eighties. If the chameleon can move around the cage and has access to direct lights at the top of the cage, I don't think you can over plant. It is important you have NO lights on at night, it will interrupt his sleeping. Also, a 10-15 degree night time temperature drop is beneficial for their health.

When i was holding the prode by the cord in the middle/ top of the cage it was gettig up to high 70s so im pretty sure that the basking area will get to the 80s, i will check it first thing tomorow morning. As for night lighting the lady i was talking to at the store said that she uses some form of night light to simulate the moonlight for him?

No night light is needed. He won't be cruising in the dark. Chameleons have a parietal eye, they can't see with it, it's more of a light sensor. Too much light at night interups their sleep. No light at night.

Thanks again! Wil post later today with him in enclosure

Hey there everyone, new member here. This post seemed to be the closest to my topic, so I decided to post in here. I recently procured a one month old veiled from a reptile expo in Orange County. The breeder said they were born on Easter, which was the 27th this year. I came to the conclusion that there is no tarsal spur, so I named her Eðla, which means lizard in Icelandic. I currently have a very small tree that I cut down as her main hideout. I washed it all off and then stuck it in her enclosure and she seems to like it. I would post pictures but it happens to be her nighttime right now. I'll post a picture in the morning. Anyways, I just bought a Cherie hibiscus, golden pothos, and a blueberry bush. I also have a bromelaid tillandsia. I was wondering if anyone else has ever done anything with a berry bush, is it even a good idea? I won't be putting it in until I get her a bigger viv, I would just really fancy some input from some members. Thanks everyone.
