The claw thing is very accurate. When they are itty bitty, its harder to tell, but once they are about a month old you should be able to hold two next to each other and see the differnce.
They have to eat in the water because their throat muscles are not strong enough to swallow food all the way. when they are in the water, their bodies are angled down and their necks stretched out, which allows food to pass and prevents choking.
I work at a pet store as well, so that is good to know. Thanks! I think I will start my own thread in the Other Reptiles and Pets section to see what else I can find out that I may not know.
