NEW JOB at pet store

The claw thing is very accurate. When they are itty bitty, its harder to tell, but once they are about a month old you should be able to hold two next to each other and see the differnce.

They have to eat in the water because their throat muscles are not strong enough to swallow food all the way. when they are in the water, their bodies are angled down and their necks stretched out, which allows food to pass and prevents choking.

I work at a pet store as well, so that is good to know. Thanks! I think I will start my own thread in the Other Reptiles and Pets section to see what else I can find out that I may not know. :)

I can only provide some info on the red eared slider.
First- can you sex them? Females have long front toenails (for digging) and sometimes a longer tail males have short ones.
Going to have to correct you here.
Males have the longer nails, specifically on the front feet.
They use them to help grip on the female during mating, as well they use them for mating behavior to stimulate the female into breeding.

Im going to smack my turtle breeder.
I was told my turtle was a female because the nails were used for digging!
Oy, never though to question them.
Makes total sense now, my turtle (named turtle) is an ass. he, formally, she, hates me!

for hoj- found this site. http://www.redearslider.com/index.html

Agree, it's the males with the long claws in the front. They do a very funny mating dance where it looks like they're tickling the females face with them! Female turtles only dig with their back feet, never the front, so it wouldn't help them dig.

I'm going to have to start working to pay for my chameleons. Family problems and business issues with the family company have been tightening the budget for my little guys. Looks like its going to be college during the week and working during the weekend. No free time :(

i got college highschool and work ^^ + the chams and the bf. i sleep when i have 30mins to myself. hahaha.

Cool Hoj, I work at a pet store too. It is fun, but frustrating, but rewarding. It's nice when you get people who really care about doing what's right and you've taught them something they didn't know and you know they're going to go home and that info is really going to help that animal live a better life.
It's frustrating when people don't give a shit, and just want the cheapest thing and you've told them how bad it is and why, and they still don't care. Or two people told them different things and they decide to believe the other person because what they said is cheaper or they already have it (ex. smaller tank) or something and that's easier than doing any research or looking it up for themselves. Because that's how little they care. And then they'll complain to your boss that you tried to tell them the other product wasn't good for their pet. Sigh.
I also know the pain of all the pet store pay going right back into the pet store till. Lol!
Anyways, best of luck, dont wear yourself out, gotta keep enough time & energy to care for all your chammykins! :)
