thank you all very much. that cup feeder vidoe was fantastic! never would have thought about that, but it looks like a great idea. I must say, with an exception posting or two, this site is very helpful and very informative, I'm glad I came upon it!

If you're worried about crickets jumping out of the cup, pull their back legs off. Insects don't feel pain, and they don't suffer, since they can live indefinitely without them. I throw some food into my cham's food bowl and they sit there and eat, and don't seem to mind they have no back legs. At first I thought it was cruel, but for Fred (my cham) he only cup feeds and this was a necessity.

play sand (which you can remove and wash periodically) is an option.

Not! Imagine how easily a belly full of sand will bung up your cham! I wouldnt, ever!
Listen to them, No substrate is best! They know what they are talking about!

Yes pretty much, not as simple as it sounds, crix nearly always jump out, they are better free ranged in small numbers imo. Feeder cups are great for varieties of worms and roaches though!

Mine ignores the cup if he checks it out and finds it empty. sometimes i just leave it there. He regularly goes by to look inside just incase. Sometimes I take it out when I find it empty.

yeah uh, playsand is really bad. not to mention how messy it can get when you have to mist all the time. Playmud anyone?

In this circumstance, you have free-range crix caked in wet sand, and your cham ingests any? its open season for the vet, which = a lot of unnecessary $$$ for you. No substrate. srsly.

I had to change Fred's feed cup because it was large enough that he actually got into the habit of just hanging out in there. Make it small. I use a superworm cup, but I also pull the back legs off of my crix. If you don't, you want something deeper.
