Last saturday, i visited Terraristika in Hamm, Germany. My husband and I just went to look around and see some interesting chameleon species, not really an intention to buy one.
Then we came across an Hungarian breeder of mostly Trioceros species. In the middle of the cage setup he had, there was a small male quadricornis. Of course I knew about this species but never saw them in real life
. I fell in love with him..
But we walked on to see more chameleons. And of course, couldn't get him out of my head. But I had no enclosure ready for another chameleon.
Finally I got home with a pair of captive bred T. quad quad. 11 month old male Barney and 5 month old Betty..of course named after Barney and Betty Rubble from the Flintstones! I have Fred and Wilma at home (F. verrucosus pair).
I also bought them a nice 24x24x48 screen enclosure, with a tray at the bottom, light fixture with Reptisun 5.0 tubelight, small 40 watt heating bulb and a daylight compact bulb. Background and one side is covered by plates. I use a humidifier about an hour and a half during the day, 4x times one minute misting sessions and i have the dripper going all day. Highest temp in the top of the enclosure, underneath the heating spot is 80f and in the rest of the enclosure it's about 75 to bottom of 70 to 65f. It's close to an open window for the temperature drop at night. Of course lots of plants (ficus, pothos) and branches for them.
Anybody who has quads and is willing to share some info with me, please do. I'm completely new on montane species, I know they need to be more hydrated then other species and they prefer mild temperatures. The breeder however told me that 86 at the highest and 64 at night are good temperatures for quad.
