hey everybody. I just got my 4 month panther about two weeks ago and hes doin fine but he goes to his sleeping spot and gets ready for bed sometimes up to 3 hours before lights go out. He can see out the windows but the sun is still up. Also, he is extremely shy. when ever i walk in the room he goes sideways on a vine, and runs away. Do they usually get calmer as they get older or might he always be like this? Sorry for the lengthy post and thanks in advance.

many people notice their chams going to their sleeping spots before they sleep, but 3 hours is odd. it might just be because its still settling in. i know for 30-45 minutes mine is in his sleeping area just hangin. i'd be worried if hes sleeping but if not i dont see a problem

Is he sitting with his eyes closed? Mine all seem to alternate between calmly basking and cruising their cage.

I have an r. accuminatus who has a schedule. At 7 p.m., she ascends the ranch that leads to a large leaf overhang in her cage so she is partially under the leaf. There she waits for the lights to go off around 8:15. She sometimes will come back down for a stroll, but usually stays right there. She does the same thing every day. As soon as the lights come on, she turns arund so she faces downward, stretches, then walks to mid-cage and waits for crickets and a shower. Very weird, but reliable.
As long as he isn't sleeping or closing his eyes with the lights on, he may just like getting comfy early.

Mine does the exact same thing. I have a four month old veiled and she tries to hide behind a branch when I walk in. She is also in her sleeping spot about 2 hours early just getting comfortable for her night of sleep.

My thought about this is, the cham has basked under the UVB and/or basking light most of the day and is probably just tried of being under either or. My question for everyone to think about is......is the spot you see your cham going to away from all artificial lights? I'm sure in the wild, they have plenty of places to go that is out of the sun and of course they don't go to sleep until it's dark and then, it's lights out. Mine does it too and I've noticed this and came to that conclusion.
